Is it normal that the game crashes a lot?

I don't see anything wrong with my PC, but the game tends to freeze with looping sound.

Specs:
Windows XP SP2 or SP1
Athlon XP 1800+
512 DDR Ram
Radeon 9700 Pro Cat 3.9 or 4.0

I found out that my router was causing the problems (caused connection overflow in the game) and that I had to open Steam ports. Thanks though.

what router Halfbob? and what ports did you open ... I may try this as a last resort have tried everything else..

Cheers for any help :)

Don't know. I'm using
1.46.02, Aug 03 2004

EDIT: Also, try rightclicking on CSS in the Play Games menu -> Properties -> Launch Options
and in the box put
+clientport 27006

Hopeing a rebuild would fix it i deided to reinstall everything. Then found out that it was just the router.. Added the ports and specified the client port, now works fine (touch wood)

Spec :
Windows XP, SP2
ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe
Nivida 5700
1GB DDR RAM

The sound bug I get all the time, don't think anything of it though. I asked in a server I was in and most of them said they got the bug too.

Yes I've had crashing all the time since the beta, in every possible way.

I've reinstalled my graphics card with about a billion different drivers.

I've added more ram.

I've messed around with the heapsize thing.

I've lowered graphics settings.

Only CS:S crashes, nothing else, I've had this problem for AGES, and still NO FIX FROM VALVE!

yeh i have this problem 2 thging is sometimes i dont get the sound loop and that seems funny as everybody i read about gets the sound loop all the timeive tested everything in my machine 2 or 3 diffrent ways each and no answer yet.
VALVES customer relations really does stink on this matter i have sent a bug report to them everytime this happens i sudjest everybody else does the same the more we hound them the quicker it might get fixed!

HalfBob42 - How do you open steam ports

I found out that my router was causing the problems (caused connection overflow in the game) and that I had to open Steam ports. Thanks though.

How do you open these Steam Ports?
