Is it possible to create a varying map for MP?

Is it possible to create a varying map for MP so that after each round a different variation of the map is loaded? Lets say we have 2 variations. The basic elements are same but there is for example a couple of doors that are locked in one variation while they are open in the second. And after each round the server would load a different variation of the map randomly. Is that possible?
 
that sounds like a good idea, imagine a CS map with tons of doors, and like 10 variations, so that every round is fresh and new. i doubt its possible though you could probably mod it in?
 
Yeah, actually I was thinking about some kind of a horror MP mod where human players in some form fight against different types of creatures. And the creatures would know what things are varied and how but the humans wouldn't. So the creatures would appear from different places as you wouldn't know where they are able to come from. That together with cool sound effects (wouldn't know their actually location, each creature creating different type of noises, lots of echo etc) might actually work as an MP horror game. That's just an idea I got.
 
Yes, it's entirely possible. You just have to define what doors/walls etc are open/visible at the start of the map.

Wow, sounds cool. So lets get a bit further. What about doors that could only be opened from the other side only? And better yet, doors that could only be opened by the other team only? So basically a map would be always the same for team A and always different for the team B.

There could be for example a hidden corridor that was always closed to team A but might be available for team B and it could be showed in a map if it's available or not and only team B could see it. So that team A would have no clue which doors/corridors etc. are open for the enemy until someone comes out from there. You think that is possible?
 
Yea you can do that with 'master' tags. It all depends on which mod you want to do it for since they all have different fgd. With mods like ns and sven coop they have entities called 'trigger_random' which I'm sure you can guess the function. Just look over these:

Or you can go to the mod's site for specific and up-to-date information on their fgd.
 
I did a CS map were the crates and some entities weren't at the same place at each round (It was the same settings every 3 rounds) so yes it is possible with the HL engine and I can imagine the possibilities with HL2 :)
