I found a way to view the US store page online at steam's website. If this is possible can I purchase those games with nothing bad happening? It's not against their terms or anything is it?

I'm just wondering cos I thought it quite interesting.

I assume you used ?cc=us method. That won't get you anywhere since you will not be able to finalize your purchases because your card doesn't belong to US bank account.

And if you somehow manage to make a payment (perhaps PayPal?), it's an offense that can get your account banned.

I'd've thought if you could buy stuff from the Valve Store from within the UK you'd be able to buy games from Steam with a UK credit card. I'm not certain I would've it possible.

I don't think you can with paypal anyway as they check the country of the paypal account, and it fails if it can't or of you're not in the US. As it's already been said, the problem is not getting on the US site it's making the payment which we can't. The only way is if you've got friends or family in the US who can gift you the game.

Except they have no way of proving you've done anything wrong.

"You supposedly bought something with a US IP/Bank Account and are now back in your home country."
"Yeah and? I was on vacation, and due to your retarded Credit Card policy that the likes of Mastercard/Visa really should be yelling at you for I had to use a friends bank account. Now **** off and let me play my damn games."

Beating the system is easy.

"Oh so you were on vacation when you bought the game, then how were you playing back home 2mins later"
" You see this here, it' says we can disable your account for whatever reason"
"bye bye smart guy"

It's not Valves fault. Many publisher don't like the idea on making a profit outside of the US by selling them here. And if they find out that your actually buying their game and giving them money they won't be very happy. Also i think you or Valve could get into trouble because then you wouldn't be paying the local VAT.

I wonder if they check your IP when connecting online to see which region you are in vs what region of game you have.

Irrelevant. Once you have a game on your account you can use it anywhere.

Sorry no your assuming the person doing the trick is an idiot. I still import cheap Valve titles for people from Thailand. However I'm forced to register those games via a Thai/Russian VPN service. I usually wait a couple of days and then sign them in through an Aussie IP and nothing bad happens.

No. They love the idea of making money but local distribution deals can stop it from happening.

They love money, money makes them happy. As for VAT I couldn't give a damn I'm Australian I purchase games from the US without paying GST, holy shit. I'm buying something from another country why should I be charged local tax on a foreign product? There is no physical product either so I can't be charged an import tax (not that the price of the goods would be high enough to warrant an import tax in the first place). I'm sorry your taxation system is backwards.

GST = Goods and Services Tax.
