Well, thats my question, since I sortof just wanted to buy a processor, not an enire motherboard

My stats in particular:
gateway 700s with some intel mobo
intel pentium4 1.90 Ghz
geforce4 ti4600 128mb
768 MB RIMM RAM
sound blaster live! value package

Also, based on those specs, what is my bottleneck?

well, i have an a gateway 700s, though my specs are 1.8GHz and 512mb of RDRAM, and i've already replaced the 4600 with an ATI 9800 Pro 128mb, and am replacing the mobo with an asus a7n8x delux, an athlon xp 2800+ and 512 DDR400 PC3200 RAM

tell me the exact model of the mobo and ill try and find out.....

but probobly not..seeing as it uses proprietary components....

yes thats thats the chipset i need the exact model of the motherboard

lexington? ..never heard of them ..is that some kind of dell name?

If its socket 423 you can get an adaptor and use 478, search for powerleap in google and you should find it.

hmm ..i havent looked at pentium systems in detail for a while...so im not familiar with them when it comes to diferant socket types and other things...

......your board should support any 400 or 533 mhz fsb p4 cpu from what i gather.........

although it wont be as fast as a newer 865-875 based board.......

that would include

all p4 cpus other than the new 800 mhz fsb models....

you are better off buying a new mobo that supports the new cpus .... they are a big improvment over the older versions...

btw ..the intel site is frigging anoying

my exact model is the number
Motherboard Manufacturer: Intel Corporation
Motherboard Model: D850GB
I dunno if that helps
but thanx anyways, I was kinda planning on getting a new nforce2 motherboard once I have enough $$$

you can get a nice quality Biostar Nforce 2 mobo for about 80 bucks on newegg

i don't know where you guys get the impression that biostar sucks, they're good quality boards for those looking to save a little money
