I've been thinking recently. Hurts, and you can hear the breeze. Anyway, whats so wrong with being, "emo" or emotional anyways? Does emo contribute to something worse then being emotional, but perhaps being irresponsible and immature?

Anyways, just a thought. What do you guys think of emo?

I predict this thread's lockage before page 3.

I predict cheap shots at 'emos' with the highly original stereotypical emo jokes.

Nobody really knows what emo is these days anyway. Fashion and My Chemical Romance... hah, don't be daft.

The point is, in modern society, people don't really care. If someone cuts themselves to say "Hey, look. I'm suffering." I can only think "Well you shouldn't have cut yourself dumbass."

yes

Some emos and punks and whatever I can live with. If you can dress different, not act all "OMG IM SOOOO NOT CONFORMING" and be a normal person... great. But the ones who flaunt it around and have no end to their troubles I want to beat the hell out of. They try WAY. TOO. HARD.

There's nothing wrong with being emotional. Emo is a music genre. You can't be a music genre. It isn't a lifestyle.

Emos that dress emo and listen to emo music is completely fine. I'm actually friends with a couple. Emos that take it too far (crying, cutting, moaning, whining, "oh, my life is so bad") are people I cannot stand. Look, no one really cares and if it's that bad, you can do something to fix it. So stfu.

emo means emotional, right? nothign wrong with that. I just hate the people that take "emo" as an excuse to whine all the time about their life, when it really isn't that bad.

Exactly the same as my opinion

Emo is a term for emotional hardcore. Most bands that are considered this are usually Fugazi, Rites of Spring, At the Drive-In, Sunny Day Real Estate, Herion, etc. All pioneers of real emo music; raw and energetic stuff. Excellent stuff.

I have actually never, ever, seen, heard or heard about someone that considers themselves 'emo' cut themselves, cry, whinge or moan. Most people that do think themselves as emo or scene (which most the time is putting your hair over your eyes and sporting a MCR or some other watered-down shitty pop-punk band shirt) mostly seem like normal people. Well, people, sheep, whatever.

Well it depends on your sense of right and wrong if you think its right or wrong. If you even have that in you.

However I dont think it's healthy. Just be yourself.

The thing about emos is that they usually annoy others because they [bitch] all the time.

Of course, I'm an extremely optimistic person and I never act like I'm having a bad day in front of everyone. I rarely do anyway. Introverted? Yeah I guess. But minus the social lackingness.
So I always just groan when I see people complain and whine ALL DAY.

To answer the question in the thread, yes, of course it's wrong to be emo. Depression and a lack of optimism or self esteem is by definition bad.

And no, people who listen to lovey dovey songs are NOT emo, I'm sick of that stereotype.

I don't mind, as long as they don't start cutting ME up :p

Same.

My grandfather died on a Tuesday. I returned on Thursday as happy as can be.

And why are people grouping those who listen to songs involving love as emo kids... Wtf? There have been songs involving love since like what, the beginning of time? And teens listening to them is bad because...?

Next thing having a girlfriend is going to be emo because it involves love?

When i think of emo, i instantly imagine some skinny dude with black forward flipped hair, thick rimmed glassees, wearing girl jeans, listening to music thats all about break ups and crying.

This would not be so bad if the stereotype wasn't quite so self fufilling.

Basically the reason I don't like them is because of the sudden urge i get to yell at them to stop whining, there are people who have it worse off, and that no one cares how straight edge you are.

People that perfectly fall into a stereotype anger the crap out of me cause they don't seem to have any originality or self expression, they merely conform to an existing idea.

I may be a gaming nerd, but i'm also an artist, I work out, I like reading, I'm a jokester, I dress comfortably but not lazily, I like to build things, and I do lots of stuff. When things are great i celebrate, when things are not, I tough it out. I take pains to broaden my horizons and not conform to any one stereotype.

Emo is a pointless title. All music is emotional even the no talent hacks out there. So there is no Emo gerne. As for the people that cut themselves to feel pain cause it gives them a high and feels good and all this lame crap.. well grow up.

It's different when you live in pain everyday of your life. You begin to loose control of your body, in time it begins to be impossible to walk from the pain, or you dry heave from migraines or have chrones desease, or cancer, or have a spinal injury. Everyday day you get worse, everyday the pain increases. You can't do anything you used to do. Play music or do any art forms you used to do, or play sports, or even go for walks down the road to visit a friend or family.
Most people that go through such common petty stuff do not realize no matter what is thrown their way, just how good they really have it.

You all forget, "Emo" is simply a teen phase. Most Emos will eventually grow up to be well-adjused adults. I mean, you can wish they all died, whatever - but you forget that these are people, with borthers, sisters, mothers and fathers. They have names. They have aspirations. They're just like you or me.

Well sure it's just a phase, but who the hell wants to remember their teenage years as a giant black hole of sadness? :p

Considering that I almost killed myself due to people constantly telling me to slash my wrists, I already look back on them as such.

And you know what? Self harm isn't funny. I remember seeing this girl at work back in the day who had a real trouble at home. Her forearms were covered in stitches. I've also got scars on my arms, you know why? Because somethimes things hurt too much. Everybody else acieving their goals, winning at life. Having people tell you your worthless, a waste of space, and should have been aborted? Not everyone's had as easy an upbringing as you guys.

are the emos the ones that wear say a brown jacket, trashy jeans and a metallic belt?

Lol, no, Emo's are the ones that wear black clothes, dark makeup (no matter what gender) and studded belts.

I just get a little frusterated over the whole Emo bit. If you're having trouble, surround yourself with those who love you, like your family.

who's right is it to say emo's wrong anyway? I'll agree with everyone here.

The issue with people who qualify themselves as "emo" (short for emotionally hardcore) is that 90% of the time they are pretentious and unreasonably complain about things they shouldn't.

Every life has a purpose, to influence things around them, how small, or how large. That is what I believe, and these so called EMOs hate their life, bla bla bla, cut wrist, saytheir life sucks, more whiening, waaa waaa waaa! SHUT THE **** UP AND GET ON WITH IT

Answer: no.
Some of them are ****s but then some of every clique are ****s.
I have never met anybody who cut themselves without an actually quite good reason (although personally, I don't think there ever actually a good reason).

Its okay to be emo, if you dont go out of your way to assert the fact that you're emo.

No... your choice.
It's also your choice to do drugs, or murder someone. So it's not wrong because it's their choice?
