Not the swashbuckling kind, they'll kick your ass...

Im talking movie pirates. Me and my mate were thinking about this the other day. if we were to go to a market and steal pirate movies, would that be wrong. Would it be more wrong to pay for them? Because technicly if we paid for them, we would be supporting the pirate movie buisness. If we "take" them then we are hurting the pirate buisness (in a small way). Are we modern day robin hoods (well maybe not really ). We just want to do our bit to stop the pirates from hurting the movie buisness. Technecly we are in the buisness, we both work at a video store (very loose conection i know). We are just trying to do our bit. ;)

its very odd more than anything :p but you mentioned robin hood so whoo! \o/ go burnzeh!

Uh, what the hell are you talking about?...Who is selling pirated movies, as that is illegal and you should report it...

STFU you pansy...

A good rule of thumb is that if you have to ask, it's usually wrong.

I wasnt asking for permision, Id do it anyway. I was just wondering if it is more wrong to pay for them. i just thought it would be an interesting discussion.

I didn't mean you were asking for permission. I only meant if you have to ask others if they think it's wrong, then it usually is.

Anyway, I think the only really "right" thing to do in this case would be to turn them into the proper authorities if you come across them. Stealing something on the basis that it's already been stolen usualy doesn't hold much water, morally.

Don't pay for them if there already pirated!!!!Yes it is more wrong...So steal them from the pirates! :D

Yeah I can see bad sides to both arguemants. i wouldnt say its "right" but its less wrong to steal, in this case...

Steal movies, then report seems to be the way to go ;)

Yes...good luck!

Your morally justified if you steal them and then destroy them without watching them.

However, legally your looking at 6-18 months ;)

Are you crazy ! i always buy pirate stuff ! here in pakistan, you can only get pirate (nothing surpriseing), you can't get real DVDs,and pirate DVDs own ! tehre like 50 - 150 Rupees here, which is like 50p- 1 quid, or like 1 dollar or sumthing !

Ever heard the term 'two wrongs don't make a right'

Well this guy stole the content of the CDs in the first place. Stealing his CDs along with the content that he stole is still stealing. In a court of law, you'd both get caned.

Just don't do it.

You live in Pakistan ?

Why not buy the movie?

You hurt the pirate business even more then.

edit: I meant legally

Probably not that exact thing...but you would still get in trouble for stealing the DVD disc because they 'owned' that part at least...

Well if they get caught out, then they will try to take everydown with them who they feel got them into trouble.

Priate DVD's and such are crazy. DVD's with stuff on them, are worth more than their weight in gold. A lot of people involved in shipping drugs, are moving over to pirate DVD's etc simply because there is more money involved in it.

Being in possession of stolen property is illegal, whether you know it's stolen or not. So no, stealing from a pirate still wouldn't be OK.

if you watch the movies, you're still hurting the movie industry. end of result

depending on what movies he stole, the movie industry would be hurting him...

Steal from any thief, that would be fine with me. Unless they were paying there kids way through college or medical treatment.

But the banks are also thieves, with the interests we have to pay for loans, while you could borrow money from your best mate and have a 0% interest.

I'd say stealing them would be risky. Who knows, they might run after you gunz a blazing. Wouldn't be pretty. But if you were 3-4 people together, 2 could hold the guy selling them (read: knock him down) while the other 2 jump on the disks  Kick the table down (if it's in a market) & stomp 'em.

Would it be right to steal stolen crown jewels? Even if the guy has already stolen them anyway it does'nt automatically mean that you can kill the guy, rob him, his car, house and get away with it because he'd already broken the law.

And also, why does it even bother you that pirated movies/games exsist? do you think hollywood are gunna give you a cut of their cash because you helped to reduce their loses. Pirating is bad. I know it is but it doesnt mean i wouldnt buy a pirated movie myself and if you think that pirating makes films/games companys bankrupt your pretty naive. They still (particually actors/producers) have massive houses and more money than they'll ever need.

depends where you do it I guess.. Sad thing about the UK is the pirates will likely be seen as the victims, regardless of the fact they stole the stuff in the first place.

Just tell the authorities instead and save yourself the bother of a criminal record.
