While I was just browsing the net we got a small power surge (lights flickered). The computer was unaffected but the router I use to connect to the Internet with shut off and restarted again. The LAN connection wouldn't come on again so I restarted the computer too.
Upon start up the connection was successful but it now only operates at 10Mbps where as it was 100Mbps before. Also, the router LED indicator has gone orange where as it was green before. In the manual is says the orange indicator means that it has connected at 10Mbps.
I've tested to see if the router have been affected and connected another computer to it. It seems fine as the other computer connects at 100Mbps and the LED indicator is green like usual.
I'm guessing the LAN adapter is now knackered? I wouldn't have been as bothered it was a PCI card but it's the one integrated to the motherboard. I can't understand why it still connects though. I would've thought it'd have just died? While this shouldn't be a problem for browsing the net, I sometimes transfer large files over the network.
