I have a Geforce 4 TI 4200 , but it only has 64 memory, at first I couldn't fathom it not being good enough to run HL2, cause it ran call of duty, doom 3 like a charm, but i'm gonna face facts and just ask if u guys know anything else.

Hmmm....it should be perfectly compatible as long as you are running the game in directX 8 mode.

Try using the switch -dxlevel 80....or something like that. It should default to that. Are you sure you've installed the latest version of directX 9.0c???

yep, i have directx9.0 c, how do i or why would i want to move back to 8.0?

He is referring to the directx level the game runs at (this is independent of the version of directx you have installed). Using the -dxlevel 80 command line switch simply disables some of the fancy graphical effects that would not work on your graphics card.

Uninstalling the current version of directx installed isn't really possible. There are some tools which claim to do it - but I wouldn't rely on them. Besides you are actually much better off with DX9 installed anyway.

Sorry if this is confusing!

Wait?

So is the problem it just runs like crap on your system? Or is there another problem?

I would also check for spyware also.

no, the game won't start, so i figured it wasn't compatible, final straw i couldn't think of anything else. I've updated all my drivers, everything, nothing works.

It says "launching halflife2, goes to the valve screen, then the blurry screen with a little LOADING in the bottom right," then it crashes to my desktop.

Damn thing :(

Have you checked out the steam support section(not the forums)?

Try adding.

-console and -dxlevel 70 to the launch options.

ok, so i would just type that in where it says "this is for expert users only" ?

sorry to ask so many questions, but i type the "-" then console or both of them or what, :( this blows. thanks for the help

no dice, this will never work, last pc game i ever buy, no wonder the whole genre is going to be extinct in a few years.

You just hurted my feewings....Please say it ain't so? Are you using the latest drivers from the nvidia website for your card?

yes sir, and my statement is true, i have recently worked for the video game industry and games just don't sell anymore on the pc format, its a sad truth.

But dammit! I want to get this pc game working and its not :(

i've used a couple diff drivers, no dice :rolling:

do you have service pack 2 installed ? it's the only thing i can think of, after your video drivers. That might help. the only other thing would be to upgrade to a newer card..... sorry

just got thru to their tech support, basic checks, sent them my dxdiag, nothing special, just upgraded my soundcard drivers, once again, nothing works :(

bitter beer face

any other drivers I may want to try?? like some omega or soemthing beta? thanks
