Lately, most notably since i installed Service Pack 2 (im running XP Pro), i've been getting frustrated that when browsing my harddrive to move files around or just browsing, as you do, taht the windows hang every so often, not responding, sometimes it's really short time but sometimes they go unresponsive for over 20 seconds.
I dont have a clue whats causing this, if anyone has any idea's or if it's normal and happens to you, please tell me.

my specs are :
Abit NF7 mobo
160gig Seagate Barracuda 8mg cache
3200+ XP Athlon
1 gig DDR400 RAM
9800 pro

Service pack 2 is the work of the devil. I would suggest rolling back to sp1 if possible. If you don't want to do that you could try defragging, but I doubt that is the real cause of your problems.

I use a program called PerfectDisk 6.0 it does a smartdefrag where it works out which files are modified allot (games etc) and which arent ever used (that dodgy little platform game hidden away in my Documents), but if it was looking for a file right at the other end of the drive, it can't take that long surely?...
I will defreg before i go to bed and do that 'Error Check' while i'm asleep... but it really bothers me !

Sp2 has only been perfection for me.
Use the normal windows defrag thats decent.

Hmm... Try a virus search once
Or you might be low on virtual memory... Although windows usually tells you this.
I know my virtual memory is 2gigs.

My virtual memory is 1 and a half gigs and system controlled. I did a virus update+search earlier and i dont have any spyware installed.
Time for the disc checker thing
:)
