Well?

I don't know whether it's just that I was fairly bad with the scattergun or not, but it seems like do much better with the FAN. Maybe it's just better for the ambush style that I've always used, but pretty much everyone but Heavy and Soldier (even Soldier if you're really close to him) can be taken out just using your two shots if they're not suspecting it. If you've gotten good with it like I have it takes less than a second to kill 80% of enemies you encounter. I think maybe a good solution would be making the clip one shot.

Thoughts?

My postcount

Edit: Oh yeah, versus scouts it's pretty even since it's hard to get around em. I think it's usually 50/50 with me fighting a Scout as Scout, whether they have scattergun or not.

I like the scattergun more. I feel that way about all the scout unlocks, really. I don't like using them, and I don't like them being used against me. But I'm still an avid scout player.

Force-a-nature is underpowered. I hate it against other scouts because they always kill you because of the larger clip.

I kill more people with the Scattergun. Maybe I just suck with FAN?

I find it easier to live against scouts with the FAN, however there is one major bug with it that drives me insane: while it's supposed to push you around, depending on the direction you're hit, sometimes it just pushes you down, regardless of the direction the scout shoots you from, which completely suspends your running movement. This equates to instant death by the second shot.

I like being able to triple jump.

It seems underpowered to me, the power is certainly not justified by the reload times (although that's kind of the point with weapon unlocks). Triple jumping also doesn't seem that beneficial, seeing as you waste a shot just to get a little bit higher, which might have some pretty sour results if you're face to face with, say, a soldier.

I don't use the FAN, it feels really weak. I prefer the scattergun clip size over those two shots of the FAN also.

This, the FAN clearly rewards people who are good at ambushing with a trade off of being far less useful in general play.

I stick to the normal Scatter Gun unless I really want double jump while using the Sandman.

It's fun though. You can get over the train cars on well, which is how I suppose you get the achievement for killing someone before the round starts.

Well it's made for extremely close ranged combat, and your reward for doing that is almost always a two-shot kill. It's mostly only good if you have the Sandman since wasting ammo is fatal with it and that's the only way to make enemies hold still. There have indeed been numerous times when i died because of the reload speed and low ammo count (if you fire once and reload, you still lose two shots) so with it's devastating power i think we can call this one even.

I prefer the scattergun for the faster firing rate, the force a nature seems fine, the slow reloading and unexpected kick back can hurt the scout.

clip size vs power. Pretty balanced. Just that it is a regret scouts aren't doing quadruple jump by unload 2 shots of force-a-nature.

Also, triple jump is tactically awesome.

FAN is awesome, but only straight to the face, slow reload is painful.

I like the FAN a lot. great for ambushes! but its push back does not always work. sometimes I hit them and they just keep coming... its annoying especially when its a ubered heavy that should have gone off the edge turns around and kills you instead.

I would like it to do more damage than the scatter gun (Scatter-gun: 85-105 180 crit FAN: 95-100 170 crit). with such a limited mag it should be much more powerful.... but if they got the push-back working properly they might not have too.... nah! and the in air firing should function more like a jump.

But I really like it... hehe. it fun to come up behind a sniper who is scoped in, line up the shot and kill him before he knows what hit him. haha!

Is it really that weak? It does feel a lot more powerful, and I guess the Scattergun could take guys at pretty quick depending on the range as well...

I don't think the raw damage output is all that should be considered in terms of the FAN's lethality. Remember, the game actually calculates a path for each bullet trace of a shotgun burst, and each bullet does a damage partial to the entire output.

I don't know the specifics, but I'd assume the FAN's spread/trace count/damage per trace are different enough from the scattergun to make it more lethal at close range.

maybe. but i think it should do slightly more damage maybe 95-115 with a 190 crit.

The only damage advantage the FAN has against the SG is that the FAN has a narrower damage range which would do more consistent damage... maybe the FAN has a higher average damage?

But my first comment holds.. it should be a little more powerful.

I'm pretty sure the FANs knockback doesn't affect ubers.

(Scatter-gun: 85-105 180 crit FAN: 95-100 170 crit)
TF2wiki disagrees:

Scattergun - Point Blank: 85-105
Force-A-Nature - Point Blank: ~82-101

(FAN does 96% damage compared to the Scattergun)

i think it should do slightly more damage maybe 95-115 with a 190 crit.
Buff it to do normal Scattergun damage, maybe. But I don't think it should do more damage than the Scatter. Its DPS when unloading both shells is already really high, I don't think it should be higher.

I just use it for the knockback. Blast a fool down some stairs, retreat, do the same thing again.

You can keep a hallway to yourself for a while while enemies can't land a shot on you. Hell, I kill pyros this way.

I prefer the Scattergun but since everyone else is using the Force-A-Nature I feel that I have to D:

For damage I like the Scattergun. For maneuverability I like the Force-a-Nature. I switch to FAN mostly for intel grabs, or if I switch to Sandman (which isn't part of my usual arsenal).
