is there a way you can change half life 2's resolution outside of the game

is there a way to change your resolution while your not playing the game. like if i were to play it and it says cannot display this resolution, can ya change it outside of the game, like without playing it. because everytime i play, it says "cannot display". i changed the resolution and b4 changinbg it, it was fine. but since i changed it, it says "cannot display" whenever playing. can sum1 help me?:naughty:

Yes, go to Properties of Half-Life 2 in Steam and you can enter command line options there ("Launch options" button). Type:
-width X -height Y
where X and Y is the resolution you want, for example:
-width 1024 -height 768
