So, I have come to know through relatives of a couple in Idaho, United States, who is getting married. The thing is, the bride is 18 years old and the groom 17. The reason they're getting married is because the girl is pregnant.

Is it common in the US that people get married simply because the woman is pregnant?

It could be worse, though. It could be a goat - http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/4748292.stm

wtf, in sweden the bitch just gets an abortion...problem solved. Atleast in most cases

I thought hiding shame babies via sham marriages was common in all parts of the world, especially Antarctica?

There are only a few scenarios TO do anyway...

Marriage
Break up + child support
Adoption/abortion

Most cases, people think they are obligated to get married, because they think, "I grew up without a mom/dad together, I don't want my kid to suffer too." Then they get divorced a year or two later.

"in sweden"............ people do that in other places too.

I constantly tell my roomate that if she ever gets pregnant due to me, she's getting an abortion. She says no, then I usually scream, "HOW CAN YOU STOP THE FALCON PUUUNNCHHH!!"
She lol's...but I'm serious.

It's not your decision to make.

It is too his decision. Its anybody's decision whether or not to falcon punch somebody. What happens afterwards is up to fate/god, and we have no control over that!

Ok, I quite agree, you can make the decision to falcon punch anyone. But only if you want me to return it with a HURRICANE KICK!

But as to whether the woman should have an abortion, it's her decision. If you got her pregnant, it ceases being your responsibility and becomes hers. If she doesn't want that responsibility, then she should take it upon herself to enforce contraception.

My friend got married because of a pregnancy because he beleived it was the 'proper' thing to do, and he really loved her. May not be typical of everyone tho...

The second you took what I said seriously AT ALL, you lost all cool points.

I'd be pissed if my GF got an abortion without my consent. And I don't think I could bring myself to give it to her. IDK, I feel like I wouldn't be giving a person a chance to live life at all. I don't want to snuff that out. Even if it was a hard life, it would be worth it to me.

How the **** did my joke about an abortion turn this thread into a discussion about it? \=

I'm sorry... but that's not true. Yes, it is the decision if a woman should have an abortion, but seriously it should be the man's deicision in part as well. Why? Because the laws in this country MAKE it the man's responsibility to help take care of that baby if he impregnates a woman.

I think that we should have a law in this country as follows.

A Woman is the sole decider on whether or not she wants to abort the fetus.

The man has a right to encourage the woman to obtain an abortion if he doesn't feel right about the decision to bring that baby into the world. If the woman goes against the man's wishes, he can put it on record that he refused and he is stripped of all responsibility in raising that child, leaving it up to the decision of the parent who wants to bring it into the world.

In this way, the man has his own set of rights. The woman ultimately decides on the life of the child, but the man is able to not be a part if he doesn't want to because he didn't feel that baby would have a good life with him as a father.

This of course, would all be strictly regulated and unless the proper methods were taken to document it all, the father would be required by law to pay for the baby's upbringing.

I think it would be simpler if it worked like this:

The woman gets to decide whether or not to abort the fetus, raise the child, or give it up for adoption.

The man gets to choose whether or not he pays child support.

It's only fair.

I think the man should be innocent of all responsibilities because it was the woman's slutness which got her preggers in the first place.

Isn't that what I said basically?

Not at all! Usually, the guy will flake out and go to a different state, wherein she will track him down and force him to go on Oprah or Montel with them, so that they can force him to pay child support and/or take care of her son.

Oh... yeah, yeah it is. I guess my window was sitting idle for longer than I thought :p

That's okay buddy. Glad we have the same thoughts

EDIT: /retroactive highfive

If that wasn't a joke I will seriously come to your place and rape you.

Reversing all the blame and responsibility from the man to the woman doesn't solve anything.

IMO while abortions are ultimatly the womans choice, if the man wants her to have one and she doesn't he shouldn't have to pay for the child.

Abortion = murder. So regardless of whether or not the woman solely makes the decision to kill her baby or the couple come to that conclusion together, the fact remains the same...they killed another human being. They're mortal souls are already in danger becuase they weren't chase before they married, add on top of that murdering their unborn child...well lets just say it doesn't look good for them.

If everyone who got pregnant here got married, we'd have a nation of 15 year old divorcees. Good job, Britain's youth. Good job.
