I was chatting to an ex-clanmate of mine and he was saying how life was shit at the moment because he had a huge power bill, and despite paying $160 towards it, he still had that much left to pay. To top things off for him, he has a mate coming around on Saturday...so I offered to pay the remainder of the bill for him. He was shocked to say the least, and accepted my offer.

I'm just wondering if this is crazy or not, because I don't think it is - but my Mum would fly off the handle if she knew I paid a virtual strangers power bill lol. Has anyone else ever done something similar, as in something random to help someone?

Btw, I'm not posting this to blow my own trumpet, just to see if anyone else has had a similar kind of 'moment'.

it's not that crazy. if you've known him for ages and you trust him then by all means. it's your money after all (at least i hope it is!). :)

I've never had that kind of situation, and if it had been me I would have been far more cynical and suspicious. I wouldn't say "F*ck off, nonce" but I wouldn't reply by offering the guy my money. But perhaps I'm just a miserable, paranoid bastard. But I'm also a student and therefore, allowed to be thrifty.
Although as Dedalus says, if you've known him for a while, then perhaps it's not so bad. There are people I'd trust from these boards. But I wouldn't pay any of you scrounging bastards, so sod off all of you:hmph:

yes you are crazy (I'm assuming you've never met your clan-mate) :)

but think of the Karma you'll get as a result. You could pratically kill old ladies the remainder of the year and still not use up all your Karma points :)

the world needs more good people ...just hope you dont get burned as a result

Well yes, it is my money, but I couldn't say I've 'known' him for more than a few months :o Nevertheless I trust him...plus I directly paid the bill with internet banking, I didn't give him the money.

then you absolutely must watch the french movie "Man bites Dog" ...the main character has an interesting take on seniorcide

Depends on how much you have/earn, leadfish :D

But I wouldn't say it's crazy. BTW I need a new car... and I've got 50.000$ too few...

Yes its crazy. How do you expect to be someone dependant by themselves and not on others. If someone offered me money to pay my bills, I would strictly of said no. Your trusting a guy you've never met..

What's trust got to do with it? Unless Leadfish expected to be paid back?

I've heard of a host of a server having the admins pay for server upkeep, but I guess this is a new one to me, but I guess if you trust the man go on ahead.

Wow. You are a good person!
/me cuddles.
The world needs more people like you :)

Oh, and while we're on the subject of bills...you see...well...my water bill...:p ;)

hey, for a good mate, and if you could afford it? No problem.

for a complete stranger that didn't ask for it? No problem.

for a jerk that asked for it and doesn't say thank you? Forget it. ;)

IRT Letters:
I don't care about being paid back because I'm sitting okay at the moment, but he swore he would pay me back so I said no interest, no timeframe. We're both students on allowances, so I know how hard it can be sometimes.
