Hello people, I'm JDark, newest member here. I have a question that deals more with the hardware that I plan to buy rather than HL2 directly so if this is in the wrong place I aplologize.

In order to play Half-Life 2 at its best I plan to build my own rig from the ground up. What I want to know from you guys is that is the PC good enough. I'll post the parts below.

Version of Half-Life 2 I plan to buy btw is this:

Parts to the rig I'm going to build:

I plan to find some more fans to keep the rig even cooler. Well suggestions/comments will be very helpful. Also, it's good to be here.

Looks very nice, exept the gfx-card. Dx 7...not good...For a pc like that I would go for the ati radeon x850-series (where the x850xt pe is top-of-the-line)

i'm sure you can get a better motherboard than that

anyhow dual 6800s ftw
or get the Nvidia 7800 Gt

The DFI Lanparty cards are good, I've heard...At least it's the overclockers dreamcard...

I don't know if everything fits though, but I'm sure you have checked, right?

And...welcome to the halflife2.net communty!

I could've sworn I put the right link in for the gfx card. My fault on that one hang on...

*Returns with the correct link*

That's the correct one. I been having debates with the motherboard and case for a while, so do you guys have any suggestions?

Here are my current specs by the way:
Intel®Pentium® 4 CPU 2.20GHZ ll ATI Radeon 9250 (256MB DDR) ll 632MB RAM ll DirectX 9.0c ll Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1 ll Mouse ll Keyboard ll Internet connection (Dial-up) ll DVD drive

he shoots he scores! :E
try Gigabyte's k8nnxp - 940 or better motherboard range - loads of slots uber reliable and super fast - the lanboy is more for someone who knows what they're doing to tweak the max out of a system

Ahhh...

$160 PSU?

Damn... I really doubt that that is worth the money.

I really doubt that you'll HAVE to have a 500W PSU like SLI recommends, most of the time...

People often have PSUs with 100-200 more watts than they really need. All this does is leave some energy unused, creating more HEAT.

Yeah... I had a 500Watt PSU, and I bought a 450 to replace it.

I recommend ENERMAX, they're very stable...

This looks nice.

i would say get 4 512 sticks of ram instead of 1 gig sticks. runs better

ya but thats not the point. from what i heard the 512's will run faster than gig sticks of ram. unless u plan on upgrading to like 4 gigs of ram ro something
