Admins can but i dont think the admins here would do that, at least i hope not, unless of course you were in halflife2.net forums, then they read everything. I know for a FACT that they read peoples pms, cause once i sent a friend my username and password for a usenet service, but on the message tracking it said that he never got it, so i just cancelled it, but then 20 minutes later I tried to log onto my usenet account and the password was changed to something like "goldberg88" so i had to call billing and have it reset. There was no other way someone could have gotten the password other then someone reading the pms, so yes if they wanted to they could.

Do you guys do stuff like this!?

I atribute it to a key logger or something. Do you guys have a better explanation?

Read what Willy Wonka wrote, he GAVE his password to someone, his definition of a friend likely being someone he's known for a few days on the net. They changed the password and he's blaming us. He pretty much admits that right there. He screwed up and had to blame someone else because of his own stupidity.

His name does sound familiar though, I think he got banned once for his behavior here. Go figure :)

Don't EVER give out your passwords to anyone, not even so called friends.

Just out of interest (I never use PM), does vBulletin support the feature of admins/supermods reading PMs?

There must be a way the forum admnistrators read PMs.

I actually thought about it when an unsuspicious PM from a mod friend came with nearly encrypted title.

No, its encrypted, only way we could see your PM's is if you gave us your password to access your account (those are also encrypted) The other way would be to reset your password to get access, and you'd notice that.

If you view someone's profile though, you can see what their doing, which thread their looking at, if their writing a PM or a post. Same goes for who's online.

I dunno about .dev though. It's using some other forum software and I've no idea about that. But VBulletin, no can't do it.

So yeah, the moral of the story is don't do what Willy did heh.

We don't (and never have) read PM's. It isn't possible through the vbulletin admin cp, only by directly accessing the database (which there are only about 3 of us who have that sort of access).

We don't even have PM yet.

PM's are not encrypted in the database, and if it were, it couldn't use the passwords for encryption since they are hashed (like a one-way encryption). And how would it be done if the user want's to change password? (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=78169)

.Dev is not using a PM system. The forum backend we're using doesn't support it and we don't think it's necessary since better alternatives exist (like various IMs and IRC).

Yes he did :(

Edit: Infact I'm closing this, don't want anyone else thinking they can give out info on how to hack VB like that.
