Is VAC2 Secure?

Hello there! Age-old question, I'm sure, but I didn't find an updated answer since VAC2 has come out:

As an admin on a server (very casual, amatuer server some friends and I have for fun), how can I be sure that players aren't cheating?
Is VAC2 secure or has it been broken yet?

I've had people accused of cheating recently by other players, but I'm unwilling to ban them without more solid evidence other than the fact that they might be just good players. I've spectated them a bit, but didn't see anything conclusive. I feel stuck between a rock and hard place, as the saying goes, b/c my friends are asking to ban these players, but I try to be fair.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Well if your regulars suddenly stop turning up, then chances are VAC2 has got them. It works on a time-delay system so that cheaters aren't certain which cheats have been VAC2 banned yet.

If I were you if lots of players think he cheats, then just ask him kindly (In private) to slow down his game a bit. If he's just a very good player then it will lose your server business in the long run.
I frequent a server that gets a lot of.... newer, and less intelligent players. If I start getting accused then I try and slow down my game so that they all have a chance too.

Of course if you ask them and they tell you to STFU because they're just owning all the noobs, then that's grounds to kick them for being a n00b owning idiot, and he should find a server more his skill level, and cocky level.

That's not exactly hard to do unfortunately :(

Thanks for the input! I didn't know VAC2 catches people periodically, I thought it prevented them in the first place. And good idea regarding talking to the player in question, although, as you said, I wonder if he'll take kindly to it. :cheese:

Appreciated!

I suggest that the first thing you do as a server admin is buy a stop watch, then time everyone's time to line up a good shot/how fast they take to shoot someone/etc. Just get a general feeling of how fast reaction times should be, and if those reaction times are crazy high on a given person, you can probably safely ban them for good. Human reaction isn't that big of a correlation.

You'd really need a program to take into account sounds, previous known locations, players helping them out, etc.
Also Ghosting could have been going on. Whether or not you think it's legal it is a banable offence on most (if not all) pubs.

It's really difficult to tell when someone's constantly reacting above normal times. Just take it that if they are constantly owning your server whenever they join, and they're driving away business, then ask them to take it easy or find a server where they have a challenge.

Some people are just good, and some hackers are v. good at hiding it. Most hackers slip up eventually. Keep watching tbh :dozey:
