is xbox360 really that good?

just hook your TV to your computer...if you have a great computer that is

Or he could upgrade his monitor ... but only if you have a good computer.

I get high-res glory too, without HDTV, VGA HD cable ftw ! <3
Might get a HDTV after I get my Vista-based comp..
And yes, I'd say it's worth it, it's a good console imo, albeit it needs more games to come out ; P

The 360 is a very powerful piece of kit, and offers superb value for money. You could spend 5 times its value on pc components and still end up with a rig that doesn't perform as well.

I think it's worth getting a 360 if you're a console fan, or if you're sick of spending loads of money on pc upgrades. Oblivion on a decent HDTV will be the way to play it :)

I love the 360 very fun console, a lot of games coming that will be worth picking up.

Games already out: And that i own

Condemned - Must have
Dead or Alive 4 - If your a fast paced fighting fan
Perfect Dark Zero - Was ok as a launch game simple play it till something better comes along.

Games coming soon: Games im getting on release.

Burnout revenge - Looks like a really fun game to play online or with friends
Ghost Recon - The game you waited for while playing Perfect Dark Zero

Not to mention the arcade! Games i have.

Geometry Wars Evolved - WOW LOVE!
Wik: Fable of Souls - Really cool
Hexic HD - when your really bored
Bankshot Billiards 2 - Challenge your friends if your a fan

Marble Blast Altra - Will be buying this next time im on live.

These are games i own or are getting 100%

I'm waiting until it gets some games that I actually want to play (and maybe a price cut). I don't want to spend $400+ and end up using it mostly to play Geometry Wars. It's a nice piece of hardware... but, IMO, the games just haven't been backing it up... so far. Sure, I'll probably end up getting either a PS3 or an Xbox 360 somewhere down the road... but I want my Revolution!

Yeah, once I see the PS3 and the Rev and what they have to offer I can make an informed decision. Plus by then, the 360 will actually have next-gen games to offer instead of the not-quite-so-next-gen stuff that is currently available (no offense intended). So no, I don't think it is prudent to get one just yet unless you have a hard-on for MS or a vendetta against Sony/Nintendo. Even if you want to get multiple consoles, wait until the 360 price-cut at least which will conceivably be around the time the PS3/Rev release, but who knows. Lots of variables still unknown....

I'd wait a few months for the good games to come out, see what Sony and Nintendo got lined up, and perhaps a price drop for the premium pack.

See VictimOfScience's post, he seems to almost always have the same feelings on games as me.

Except that even though I think there will be good games that will make it worth purchasing, I won't be getting a 360. Almost everything that Microsoft does in the console industry gets me mad, so I don't feel like supporting them.

Or you could just use the search button and read what everyone wrote about the unit. Then if you like it buy it, if you don't then do not buy it.

I just got my HDTV and looks great. X360 is worth your money and your time. I recommend only buying one if you want to hook it up to your computer monitor or to an HDTV. A SD TV (Standard Definiton) will not look that great...a little better than XBOX but not the full effect. Ghost recon, Oblivion and Burnout revenge are must haves for this system..so is condemned.

You might want to get an X360 sooner rather than later. If you plan on getting the revolution, very smart decision. But the PS3 is going to be VERY expensive! each PS3 will cost Sony $900 american to manufacture...so if they want to compete with Microsoft, the most they can charge is $500 american (or 100 dollars more than the X360 premium package). If Sony does that, Sony will lose Billions of dollars, so be prepared to pay at least $900 or even more. And I'll bet you by the time the PS3 or the revolution comes out, the X360 price will not be cut. Microsoft knows how expensive the PS3 is to manufacture, and once people see the huge price tag on the PS3, most people will turn to the X360. So right now, the X360 is pretty cheap.

While the 360 looks great on a HDTV, i'd rather play it on a large standard tele than on a comparably tiny monitor.

Big screen ftw :)

Billions of Dollars? What!
The Xbox 360 costs $730 to make or about that. Would even cost more if they added an HD-DVD option onto it.
It may cost that much to produce right now but once you actually start getting mass production on this like blu-ray into ful affect the price will dramatically decrease for Sony. What you think other companies arn't going to give Sony Money to put a blu-ray drive in their? You think other companies that are pushing for those wont help fund Sony? It'll be just like DVD's. Sony isn't in this alone, not with Cell or Blu-Ray.
Throw in licensing fee's well there you go. Sony will make up for lost profits through all of that.

Hell Microsoft lost a few billion just getting into the market, and are possibly lookin into loosing more. Sony a company also pulling in tons of profits is very willing to loose some money to keep there foothold on this market. Though, if they booth keep on willing to loose money...they might just end up throwing eachother out of the market while Nintendo the company that actually makes money grows happy.

I'm really enjoying mine. Every game that I have is very enjoyable and graphically impressive. I have:

Condemned
Fight Night Round 3
Kameo
PGR3
Perfect Dark 0
Call Of Duty

Xbox Live Arcade games:
Bankshot Billiards
Marble Madness Ultra
Geometry Wars Evolved

I'll also be picking up Ghost Recon: Advanced War Fighter in early March and Oblivion later on in March. I'm very impressed with it so far.

All indications point to Sony selling at a loss, they did it with PS2 and there's no reason for them to sell at such a ridiculous price point. In anything, there's a far greater incentive for them to push the price point as low as possible just so they could establish the Blu-Ray market. That estimated $900 dollar isn't set in stone either, it's all just speculation based on what the writer thinks will cost.

If I were you, I'd go with what VictimOfScience and other's suggested, just wait until more systems are released (for competitive prices) or until there's a good supply of games you want to own.

 In the first part of your post you're basically saying theres only one good game that has been released, yet you say its better to get one sooner.

PS2 and Xbox were sold at losses, and so are/will the X360 and PS3. Its nothing new.

Also, just so you know, the $900 thing was a typo. The report by Merrill Lynch lists $800 in costs... then under the "total" section it says $900. Rather than spend time adding up the costs and checking the math, the media outlets just took the easy route and reported the "total." It's still bad... just not as bad.

Let's make some quick assumptions. We'll say that $800 is how much it will cost, no one is helping with the costs, they're going to price it equal to the Xbox 360 ($400), and they're going to sell 10 million units at this cost. So, that would leave them with a loss of $4 billion. That's only about 4% of their current assets, IIRC. There's more than enough money behind Sony to ride out the PS3... even if those conditions hold true... and they make no money from licensing, PS3 games, or Blu-Ray movies.

Warbie, depends on how close you sit to your monitor, I sit as close as I can without melting my face <3
I'd love to get a large HDTV but my room is incredibly small so it'd only be a bother tbh.
And besides, I'd rather spend those 1500 bucks that 40" Samsung LCD HDTV costs over here on a new comp, albeit a HDTV might be a one-time purchase.
VGA will tie me over fine til I can get a HDTV anyway!<3

I don't understand why everyone is having trouble deciding if they should buy a 360, and it hardly deserves an answer. But you will get many answers, becuase everyone has an opinion on this.

Your choices are: PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, or Xbox360 if you want recent console. The games are all basically the same no matter what system you buy. For example, you can buy Need for Speed Most Wanted for any of these systems, but the graphics are best on the 360.

Let me re-iterate

Besides the software differences:
The 360 is a video game machine. its 3 times more powerful than the xbox, which is like twice as powerful as the playstation2. so in -effect, its 6 times more powerful than the playstation2, but the playstation2 has 6 times more games. But you don't really need 400 games, what you need are a few good games, and the 360 has them, so i say go for it, you certainly can't lose. There will be great games coming out for years

Would you rather have good graphics or insane graphics?

Thats basically the difference. Although there are many other differences, do they really matter anymore after knowing all this? Personally, I'd only play a Playstation2 if you paid me.

You can always wait and see what the new systems from Sony and Nintendo have to offer whenever they come out. My opinion on that is - why wait? the only problem with the 360 is the fact that it has the least amount of games compared to the other systems. If you wait for a newer system than the 360, they will have the same problem. Not that many games. So waiting for a newer system than the 360 is counter-productive.

Meaning: you are waiting for less. By the time the newer systems come out, the 360 should crush the other next-gen systems when it comes to available software quantity. Then you are back to the fact that you don't need hundreds of games, you need a few good games. So the only reason I could see to wait for a Nintendo or Sony, wouldn't be for the graphics, becuase they will be about the same.

You need to consider the games that are out or will be coming out for all the systems, and thats the bottom line.

Personally, I'd rather have more than one or two games to play that interest me and aren't already on my PC... but that's just me.

I love my 360 tbh, well worth the money, managed to get the main package (with the HDD, wireless Controller etc etc) luckily, whereas my poor brother only managed to get the Basic Package, but between we get pretty much all games out :p loving every minute of it, along with how Xbox Live has advanced on it makes me love it even more. So yeah, its well worth getting imo.

I picked up a 360 premium past Thursday there, and I'm very pleased with it. Only have PD0 and Condemned, but these games will keep me going for a while, and at the end of March, i'll pick up oblivion. Possibly get the Ghost Recon game next week too. (It is next week aye?).

I can get on Live every now and then too, so I can use the thing to it's best potential. Recommended.

It's a shame the reasonably sized list of friends i did have on live i've had to get rid of because most of them either don't come on or don't own a 360 and won't do for some time, suppose i gotta start looking for some new friends :p those of you who wish to add me too your XBL friends list my gamertag is ofc Drackard

Still need to buy a Gold account, might do it when Ghost Recon releases <3
Too bad my trial ran out ;p

I got upgraded to a gold account for having a previous live account on the old xbox, something like that anyway lol :p

Am im the only one who think those GR screenshots look awful?

Most screenshots of most games look awful imo :p which is why i dont judge by them

No so my friend. The Gamecube has radically different games available for it than do the PS2 or XBox. The PS2 also has easily the best RPG selection of all the consoles, not to metion the backwards compatibility with PS1 games that are some of the best games ever made.

Why even bother with the first few parts of this post when all you do is say that none of what you just mentioned is necessary? Waiting will save you money now and potential buyer's remorse later. IMO, buying one before E3 this year is lunacy as then we will all be able to see what Sony and Nintendo have to offer and I am betting that it will be amazing on both sides. If money's an issue, and with the next-gen consoles it is an issue for most folks, then buying a 360 now is foolish--you haven't even seen what the PS3 or Rev can really do! Be smart about it--there are enough awesome games out now as it is that you should have plenty to keep you busy til later this year when the rest of the new consoles hit! :)

Play a demo unit in one of the thousands of stores that have them to see if it floats your boat. In the stores by me they even have hd flat panels to play on. Between demo units and playing my friend's, I can honestly say I will never purchase an Xbox 360 and wouldn't want it if it was given to me for free.

Personally i am very happy with my 360. I have a 26" samsung hdtv to play it on, and most of the games i have or have played have been enjoyable, not to mention quite beautiful, and i'm quite fussy when it comes to graphics, hence my pc specs. And so far i have to say that i have found the games i own at present (PD0, PGR3 and NFSMW) equally as enjoyable as some of my favourite pc titles. I have also dl'ed and played the condemned and kameo demos, and i was very impressed, and am tempted to buy both at some point. I also found COD2 more impressive on the 360 than the PC. Sure the 360 may not have a whole host of titles to choose from at present, but that will change in the future and i have no doubt to believe anyone will be left dissapointed by their 360 once developers are fully in flow.

Imo fanboys of one brand or another lose out if they ignore one console or another because of a prejudice, or because it's not made by their favourite company. Fair enough if you can only afford one console, then you are wise to spend your money on the one console you think will provide the most enjoyment. Personally i am quite excited about the PS3 as well, and even though the revolution doesn't sound typically my cup of tea, it looks quite promising and could bring great things to the gaming world.

You can't really judge the 360 in full right now as titles are few, but so far i have been impressed, and am sure it will continue to impress once more innovative and striking titles begin to come out. Fighting over which console will be the best is a waste of time, as each console will suit different individuals needs. At the end of the day it doesn't matter what someone else thinks about a console, it's about the enjoyment that you as the owner experience.

Actually, the main choice when going for a single console is whice system has the best exclusives for your tastes. Since X360 almost has no new games that are any good, its a good time to wait. PS2 and GC have some of the best games this generation coming from their first and second party studios. Right now the best choice for someone without a console would still be to get a ps2; There are many incredible exclusives in almost every genre, every gamer is bound to find something they love. Otherwise, its best to wait and see what Revolution and PS3 have to offer.

I agree, PS2 is in the cheap right now, Metal Gear Online is about to come out and Okami will follow later, plus the great library of games that ps2 already has, it makes it a great console to have, not really worthy to have a XBOX 360 for now, that situation might change later on, who knows...

No. You're assuming. I never mentioned Project Gothem Racing 3 or Dead or alive 4 or Perfect Dark Zero or Call of duty 2 (not to mention the great arcade games on Xbox live.)

And I know that the company's will lose money. The only company that is playing it smart is Nintendo.

I got one last week. I'm happy with it, and to be honest that's all that matters. I have no need to justify me buying it to anyone.

Wait virustype, the xbox 360 isn't six times more powerfull then the ps2, on core alone is clocked at 3ghz, and it has 3 cores. While the ps2 has one 300mhz core.

In any case, like victim of sience said just wait atleast a little.

For me I will make my choice after 5 or 6 years, when the consoles are cheaper, and i can asses which has the most exclusives I want. besides by that time a lot of good games will be sold at 20, just like ps2 platinums are sold now.

Some people are waiting to see what happens with the consoles before buying.

Im waiting to see what happens with PC technology becuase Im in the market for new PC hardware.

Theres something really cool about being able to easily change the graphics, sound effects, explosions, and modify or add your own new weapons to your favorite game, among 1000's of other things, like making a 3D map of your house or your school or something, filling it with enemies, and running around in your house shooting enemies.

I plan to someday soon remake my old favorite game from 1987 "Dungeon Master" using Doom3's or Quake 4's 2005 game engine.

So if any of that interests you, I recommend a powerful PC actually. My oldest brother ( a programmer and modeler featured in numerous magazines and working on a new movie to be out later this year featuring alot of computer animation all done by him )told me yesterday that he is doing some research and will be building one of the fastest PC's in the world.

So he's builing one of these?

 Claims like this are awesome--just ask Apple:
The Council of Better Business Bureaus has recommended that Apple Computer discontinue comparative performance claims regarding its Power Mac G5 desktop.

Acting on a tip from Apple rival Dell, the council's National Advertising Division (NAD) "determined that the evidence provided by Apple did not provide a reasonable basis for its broad unqualified claims that its Power Mac G5 is 'the world's fastest, most powerful personal computer' and that it 'edged out the competition on integer.'"
