And do you differ or relate to them in their views?

I'm just curious how many people on these forums, either share their families/parents political affiliation, or differentiate from them.

Me personally... my family for the most part is conservative, and I happen to share beliefs with them.

EDIT: Damn. Forgot to add a poll. Argh. Oh well.

If a mod can, add four poll options?

1. My family is Liberal, and I share their views.
2. My family is Liberal, and I differ from their views.
3. My family is Conservative, and I share their views.
4. My family is Conservative, and I differ from their views.

And maybe a fifth and sixth one for fun.

5. My family is Liberal, and I murdered them for their views.
6. My family is Conservative, and I murdered them for their views.

Hee hee.

Very few call themselves conservative in Sweden; it's very often associated to racism. My family is Liberal, but about half of my friends are communists.

I dunno, I guess my parents were quite Liberal in their younger years, but they don't really talk about politics so much. I guess they are neither, they hold views agreeing with both sides for different policies.

I guess you could call my dad a "Liberal CEO" if such a thing existed. He holds quite Liberal views, such as allowing people freedoms, but does well in business.

Me, I think I am centre of the political spectrum.

I like the idea of Liberalism, but I can't seem to apply to real life some of their ideas.
And some of the Conservative policies, but again I don't see how some of them relate to reality.

So I am neither Liberal Democrat or Conservative.

I guess I will be voting Labour (that's New Labour BTW) in the next general election, just because I think the conservatives and liberals would **** things up more than Labour, TBH.

Well, I agree on views for both sides... but i still largely consider myself conservative.

My family is grey.

We don't think in "liberal" or "conservative" ways here in Europe, sorry.

my mom used to be a hippie but now shes a conservative and my sis and most of my other relatives are liberal....and im conservative but im a bit of a tree hugger lol...but i have kind and civilize conversations with my very liberal family about political topics, its good to know both sides of the issue!

My mother is a left winger. My dad is kind of center. I am a right winger. My 2 brothers and sister are all champagne socialists.

my German side is pretty liberal but my american side....there harcore Conservatives.

Is that because there are no conservatives in Europe?

No, Calanen, because there's more than 2 parties most of the time.

My family is a swing vote. Whoever will do best.

Well, I happen to agree with this. My family won't vote Republican just because we're conservative. We'll vote for who we feel will do the best job.

I don't think anybodies votes are written in stone for eternity just based on what political preference they have.

Yes there are, but in Europe there are 3-10 parties in the parliment, while it's only 2 in the US. You got one conservative and one liberal, while some european countries got 1-2 consevative, one socialist and six liberal.

all conservatives. and everybody at my school thinks its because they are commies. shwat?

To be honest, I can't tell you, beacause registration of politcal opinion is illegal in Sweden. I have no right to state what other people think, without their approval.

my father is a democrat (dunno why, he owns a gun, is a former marine (vietnam vet), oh that's right, because he is from a poor family, and republicans hate the poor) and my mother is an independent. Their views are largely liberal (pro-choice, pro gun-control, anti-absurd wars), but they never really express them. I know my dad votes democrat, but my mom has never told me who she votes for. There has never been any discussions about anything political really, so I have had the opportunity to for my own ideas and opinions.

My (nuclear) family is pretty much entirely armchair liberal. They're all like "meh." But they're definitely not religious, and they definitely dislike bush to some extent or another. But we all had very different votes last election.

I'm the only one who really gives politics very much serious thought though.

but about half of my friends are communists.

This is why the world scares me. :p

On topic, my family is slightly Liberal, whereas I am much more of a centrist then they are.

What scares me is that 50% of the american population is (or at least vote) conservative. Conservatism to me mean no progress. If you vote conservative, you might as well ban all inventions that has been made in the last 100 years.

Can you explain that theory to me? I don't understand your reasoning. I don't agree with the traditional social agenda (which is why I'm not a conservative), but that agenda is changing as well. 51% of Americans voted Republican in the last election, yet someting like 80% of Americans support civil unions in theory. That is a lot of "conservatives" supporting gay rights. And yes, I do realize that the US Republican party is really more of a center-right party as opposed to a true conservative party of old. But that doesn't change the fact that to me the conservative agenda seems to be focusing more on the economic issues, which is their strong point anyway, and moving away from the conservative social agenda.

I do realize that the Republican Party does not stand for those things I said, but the word "conservative" has an unpleasant ring to me, as with "racism". I don't think there're many true conservatives who support gay rights. Also, conservatives are usually very religious, and we all know that religion and politics is a bad mixture.

I'm very different from my family. I'm hardcore conservative, but unlike them I owe nothing to any political party. I used to be democrat/liberal, but not anymore. I used to go with my family, they would preach lies like "the democrats are the party of the PEOPLE, they are for the little guy! The republicans are just for big business!". Then I learned what a crock of shit that was. My family is extremely liberal, and I take hell for it too :) but its all in good fun.

I have to say, that is an interesting piece of information... I knew there were a few parties.. but I didn't know there were that many!

Well, my family is split in half... so we try to steer clear of the political discussions... but For the sake of the thread.. I am conservative.. and have gotten that probably from being brought up as such.

Well, I can't speak for whole Europe, but in the Swedish parliament we got seven parties; six more or less liberal and one socialistic. The two most right-wing parties do share some conservative ideologies, but they're mostly liberal.

yup, here in the flemish parliament (belgium has 2 governments basically) theres now a coalition of 6 (!) parties. With the green party, the fascist extreme right party and some other small ones bein in the opposition. Its alot easier actually to find a party that fits your views :)

my dad's side of the family has always been on the right side of the political spectrum, always voted for the christian-democrats. Although my dad kinda evolved to a more central-right liberal view.
My mother's part were socialists, she voted for the green party who are really quite leftist.
I'm central-left on the political spectrum. Voted both liberals and socialists on the last election

Yeah, my mom's quite liberal on most things, Dad's a bit more to the right I think, I've got some fairy interesting view...

Like theres the side of me which says how ppl should be equal...
Then theres the side which says that that stuff doesn't work, and that u need to rule with an iron fist...

Though I would still vote for the NDP (Canadian more or less socialist party)

My family is mostly liberal and I share those views, Even though we live in a town that is largely conservative.

My family and I are all socialists. I'm a little bit more to the left then them, but not enough to call myselft a communist. (Yes I'm a tree hugger, yes I'm against big business, Yes I am against that piece of paper we call money cause I understand that happyness is not bought in a cardboard box)

Everyone I know is conservative. I am seeking an active role in the Republican party where I live.

No progress? I guess you are happy neo-cons are in power?

They want SS reform, simplification of the tax code, they are streamlining our armed forces making them stronger and more skilled than ever before, fighting terrorism, and will hopefully reform welfare into something more porductive. Today's republican party is progressive, just not in your way.

I am Democratic Socialist and Liberal (mixes both ideas) some in my famility share the same views.

My immediate family is pretty liberal. The further out you go, however, the more conservative they get.

Me and my parents have always shared pretty similar views, but we've disagreed over some issues (ie. the Iraq war). My brother is far from politically aware, but he'll usually take a liberal stance if he has to.
