It Is Here!

Having pre-purchased EP1, I fired up Steam at 12pm CST, an hour after release. No changes. I waited 30 minutes, closed Steam, opened it again, and then it recognized that I'd purchased the game and flashed a "Validating" window. Now I've been sitting her for 5 minutes with this:

Updating: 0%. I also checked Task Manager...0% CPU utilization, 0% network utilization. I think the Steam servers are overloaded; the pages keep timing out.
 
Dang, I waisted ten minutes before I realized I had to restart steam for EP1 to decrypt. :rolling:

SO THEN I ****ING HAVE TO REBOOT THE ****ING COMPUTER SO I LOOSE ALL MY DOWNLOADS!!! lmao...thank you for making me actually laugh out loud for the first time while reading a post on a forum...im stuck at work right now until 3:30, then im going to the gym so i wont be playing until about 5-6pm, but damn i cant stop thinking about how damn gooood this game is going to be!!! got a 7900gtx just for this game!!!

Had it pre-loaded and purchased, deliberately put it off for a couple of hours in order to avoid the 'rush', and now this! :frown:

Loaded Steam, decryption started - took around 10 minutes. That's OK, I can wait. Decryption finishes, so I look the game up in 'My Games' - 'not installed' :hmph:

Ok, ok, I decide to restart Steam and see if it 'refreshes'.

Downloading: 83%, 102 KB/s

It has been stuck on 83% for at least 5 minutes :x
 
how come ive installed the game and everything but it doesnt say 100% ready i still have to download. Any help? And I still have to finish the episode 1 update for 2 hours 30 minutes.
GRRR I cant stand waiting.

I've been downloading at ~100KB/s for 15 minutes, and it has only moved from 83% to 84% :|
 
But whta am I download apart from the episode 1 update coz it still says Half Life 2:Episode 1 Downloading 72% 43.3kb/s
 
this is really annoying was hoping to play it tonight i gotta work tmr. <sigh>

I right click and launched game then it put me into the loong episode 1 update

At least they are giving me a time - ~ 45 minutes.

To be honest, this is bad service. Why can I not play when I have both paid and pre-loaded, yet nearly everyone else is playing the game right now?!
 
Afternoon does it still say Half Life 2:Episode 1 Downloading..% ...kb/s to you and how come the update only says 45 minutes to you what connection u on?
 
uh thats weird it just said stem warning steam is having trouble connecting to the servers has that happenned to anyone else?

No, it was released at 11am CST. I know that for sure...it loaded fine on my other computer.

The solution was a bit tricky. I installed a second copy of Steam on my D: hard drive on machine #1, copied and pasted the EP1 shared files from computer #2 to computer #1's second Steam installation, and then it worked. I spent 5 hours playing the game, then copied and pasted the EP1 folder from the D: installation to my normal C: installation, then everything worked. I uninstalled the D: Steam and now everything is happy :|

First time I've had any trouble with Steam.

I think steam servers are getting the hell lagged outta them from the E1 playing and downloading
 
If people are complaining about downloading the game just after it was released, they should be shot. Why didn't they pre-load the game when they had a whole MONTH of time to do it?

I pre-loaded, and still had to wait over an hour for it to update!

Decent offering so far I suppose, I'm only posting cos it crashed (oh-so familiar sound looping before it) :(

Gives me a chance to fight my starvation tho :)
 
I guess I'm one of the lucky SOBs out there. I Preloaded and purchased Ep1 about a week ago, then I left the PC running on Thursday for virus-Scan (I got 140GB of data in my two hard-drives, I hate to maintain them while I'm using it) so I leave it on, and went to work, By the time I came back, around 1:30 (Eastern U.S. Time) Ep1 was unencrypted updated and ready to play.

So in yar face queue lovers.:sniper: :p :p :p
