Community Update 11/2/06
Attention soldiers,

We would like to explain here how committed we are to increasing everyone’s experience with Battlefield, especially regarding the updates for Battlefield 2142. We acknowledge that the patching process could have been smoother for Battlefield 2; we have listened to the feedback and learnt from it.

To accomplish this goal Dice has recently formed a Live Team with the purpose of making sure your playing experience on the Battlefield is as solid as possible after the game is launched. Among other things, the team works closely with the community and handles the patching process, together with the Ranked Server Providers.

Your Dice Live Team is located at the Dice Studio in Stockholm and is made up of key people from the game project teams. This means that the same people who actually built Battlefield 2142 will be responsible for updating it. It has the clear advantage of involving people who are fully knowledgeable about the code and design of the game. The patches will also be thoroughly tested in closed beta tests before being released.

The patches will also be entirely dedicated to correcting bugs and making fixes instead of introducing new gameplay mechanics, thus significantly reducing the risk of introducing new bugs with the patches.

With all this said, we would like to announce patch 1.05 for Battlefield 2142. The patch includes more than 25 fixes which will improve every player’s experience on the Battlefield.

The following fixes will be included, along with many others:

* Titan will no longer be able to move once its shields are down, so that lag within the titan should be significantly reduced and revive inside the titan shouldn’t be a problem any more

* Changes in EA master server communication to greatly reduce disconnects

* Players are now able to receive the Titan Survival Pin

* All players will see the same missile silo location numbers in Titan Mode

Patch 1.05 is scheduled for release later in November so keep watching this space for detailed release information. Also, stay tuned for more information on an upcoming competition allowing you to make your mark in 2142.

See you on the Battlefield!

Your Dice Live Team
Why oh why could common sense have prevailed a year ago with BF2. 2142 may be a noobified reskinned BF2 but it seems to be heading down the right track
- few to no gameplay changes unlike BF2 eg light machine guns from crap -> godlike ->good or AA from crap -> ridiculous -> ok
- lots if bug fixes unlike BF2 with its buggy browser, glitches and general weirdness
- common sense fixes (see the titan moving fix) unlike the BF2 gl fix for example (yes I'm bitter)

Maybe just maybe some of the 2142 attitude changes and improvements will filter back to the better game but I'm not at all optimistic. On the other hand the improvement in game support is weighed against a less skillful, slower, 'one soldier = one main battle tank' balanced, infantry dominated game and spyware, ingame ads and less content at the full retail price. :(

Nah, they're still sidestepping - they should find a way to remove titan lag when on the move, not go around it and eliminate movement after the fight on the titan begins.

but its a good simple solution - the kind of thinking that was sorely lacking when BF2 was being developed
titan moving causes lag? solution - stop titan moving. Simple as that

The amount of detail the server has to deal with is huge. Okay first you have a giant moving fortress with a massive collision hull. Then you have 10-20 people running around inside it in all manner of directions. That's a lot of movement and collisions to figure out. Kinda similar to how lifts are broken in HL2DM.

My idea was similar in that you'd have a 5th engine console that could quickly be taken down.

Ahh, lets put that scenario in BF2.

"Red/Blue name bug appears? Fix it!"

Ahh, that would have been nice.

I've never had the red/blue name bug in BF2, that or I have and never noticed. If aiming at a vehicle I check my radar if at inf I'll go by their uniform. Yet wankers still can't tell the difference between Black (PAC) and Grey/Orange (EU)

It's not near as important in tanks then when you are walking and turn a corner, and there's a teamate there, but the only thing you see is the red name, and it clicks *BAD GUY* and blow him away. :(

Well fair enough I suppose. In the same scenario I like to make them run around a bit before killing them. Much more entertaining.

I wish they did something about the performance in the Titan. I can play Conquest quite fine, but Titan mode is choppy and it gets unplayable in the Titan itself.

If I meet the recommended requirements, I'd like to be able to play on all the maps, not just half of them (well numbers may vary a bit, but you get the picture).

Dice = morons.

They may be morons, but they make good games, eh? At least Battlefield 2, for all you BF2142 hate-bandwagonists. ;)

appears they are attempting to return to their old ways during BF 1942, good meaty patches.
