freshdevices.com - Fresh Download, it is supposed to make your downloads faster, even on dial-up, but I don't notice any difference.. anyone on cable/DSL notice any difference?

Those are almost always scams.

Speaking of dial-up though, I watched Saved By The Bell this morning. :D

I only tried it, because I saw it on G4 Tech TV...

BTW I don't get your joke :|

Dial Up has a put-in restricition to be about 5.6Kilobytes a second tops. It can infact reach up to 7 Kilobytes a second. However that is considered to be using to much bandwidth and they don't want the internet to hinder telephone bandwidth.

So basically you will never get more than 5.6 Kilobytes a second on a 56k, except for some randomly higher numbers at the start of the download.

As more people switch to broadband and broadband telephones this cap should eventually be lifted. OMG THINK WHAT WILL BE POSSIBLE ON A 56K WITH A 30% INCREASE!!!....not that much....

I'm fairly sure that those higher speeds at the start are a result of IE beginning the download while you browse for a folder to save it in, and then calculating the download speed using the time elapsed after you selected a folder to save in.

Too bad about the speed cap though.

Makes sense. I know Opera does the same thing.
