Larry Green stepped out of the darkness so suddenly that the car that hit him didn't even leave skid marks. The impact sent his shoes, socks and the unopened beer in his hand flying.

Green came to rest on U.S. 401 alongside a trash-strewn ditch, where he was examined by paramedics and declared dead.

Over the next 2 1/2 hours, the bloody body with a gaping head wound was zipped into a black vinyl bag, taken to the morgue and slid into a stainless-steel refrigerated drawer.

There was just one problem: Green was alive.

tsk.

damn, thats scary.
I read somewhere that same thing happened to this woman, she was in a coma and they thought she was dead, but she jumped out of her coffin and into the path of a car and died.

Why would there be a coffin next to the path of a car? o.O

it was a funeral and she was so confused she ran out of the church and onto the road. Probably not true anyway.. :)

at first that sounded like a mod idea, a good one. *thinks*

Urban Legend. She'd have been embalmed by then.. and if they embalmed you you'd be dead, you can't live with formaldihyde in place of blood :P.

Wtf!!! Only in america! As someone said in the report, someone shouldn't be pronounced dead on the street, it should be made official in the hospital or atleast on the way in the ambulance!

Dr. J. B. Perdue showed up half an hour later and began examining the body, lifting and twisting Green's broken right leg, rolling him over and inserting a gloved finger into the gash in Green's head.

Damn, I can't imagine the feeling.

Scary, but it happens. I have a story from my mom's hometown of Santa Maria, which is known for having a terrible health system.

A neighbor of my grandma's is found unconscious in his house, and is sent to the hospital. They have him in intensive care, trying to bring him back. Eventually, they realize that the man is in a coma, and has no chance of waking up. The doctors tell the family that he's a vegetable, and they're heartbroken. After much deliberation, they decide to turn off the life support system. The doctor turns the life support machines off, and a few seconds later, the guy wakes up. Apparently, the machines kept the guy unconscious, and the doctors didn't know what the **** they were doing.

Hearing this story made me understand why my Grandpa drove 2 hours to Berkeley for doctor visits. I would too.
