I need help getting some characters in MS Office.

What I need (from PDF; it's an image):

Anyone any clue?

I think I'm on to something:

Doesn't MS office have a formula writing thing? I use Open Office and it has this thing where you can write formulae and put in Greek alphabet and derivative signs and stuff, but I wouldn't know about MS; maybe it has something similar.

If you're allowed to use Equation Editor, you can make both of those.
If you don't have easy access to Equation Editor yet (as in, on a toolbar), right-click on a toolbar, click "Customize...", and on the command tab, under Category click "Insert", scroll down until you find "Equation Editor", and - here's the stupid part - you have to click Equation Editor and drag it to a toolbar.
Also, the list of commands may or may not be in alphabetical order so you may have to look around for Equation Editor.
And I vaguely recall having to specify that I wanted Equation Editor when I first installed Office once. If you can't find Equation Editor, you may have to dig up an install disc. Or you can attempt to follow these instructions.

Good luck.

[I keep editing] I just read Cancer's post. My instructions are for those of us hanging out in pre-'07 land.

In Office 2007(2010 too I would assume), open the "Equation Tool" and to the right side one of the options is "accent".

Then just apply the ones you need to the alpha,

Ta-da!

Hope it helps.
