I must say, Epsiode one has been fantastic so far. So many new entites and visual effects and new AI routines it almost feels like a new game.

However, its already crashed on me three times. I'll just be walking along, and then all of the sudden my sound stutters and it freezes and I have to shut my computer down. It's really quite frustrating. However, there is not as much sound stutter at all as there was in the original hl2, but at least hl2 didn't crash on me every 30 minutes!

The only time it crashes for me is when I try and access the Episode Two trailer at the end. Can anyone else see that? Even when I choose it in the chapter select box the game crashes to desktop.

It might not actually be a teaser for Episode Two, but I'm hoping it is, heh.

go, steamapps/episode one/media its there, i had same problem :p

okay, after crashing twice more and looking at the console I have come to the conclusion that it is something wrong with the save system. All of my crashes have been at autosave points, and the last crash was when I tried to save manually....I'm not sure what to do from here. I'll just keep playing and hope it doesn't crash. It's just really annoying when it does.

My computer keeps freezing too. Probarbly due to lack of hard drive space and the fact that our computer runs a trillion programmes at once...

Its annoying when it freezes and makes a noise, then you have to put up with surround sound speakers repeating the same sound loop over and over and over.

By the time it unfreezes your ears have popped...

My computer freezes, but only when I quick save sometimes. A quick control-alt-delete and a click on the "HALF-LIFE 2" on the Start Bar, a little loading, and it's back to normal.

I use Alt+TAB, its pretty much the same only quicker than Ctrl+Alt+Del...

I treid quicksaving and it crashed, and then it crashed again on a manual save. I can't ctrl+alt+delte or alt tab out, it simply hangs.

I had some minor 2-second stutter, and in the ep 2 trailer Eli's voice is broken (as if it's not fully loaded).

Only problem i had was during the train stalker sequence there was an odd sound distortion that made crackling noises sometimes. Might be because i had hdr on and it couldnt handle it, but my fps wasnt that bad so i dont know. Other than that it didnt crash or anything.

Could be lag...If the Episode two trailer is not on the internet and Steam is accessing it on there....too many poeple could be accesing it at once...?

Then again what do I know. I'm not a computer expert like my dad...

okay, it takes me alot to get fed up, but I am fed up. It crashes virtually every save. So either I find out a way to turn autosave off and play the whole game without saving, or I find some kind of fix.

You tried restarting your PC? Tried defragging the cache or verifying the files (right click the game properties in steam), upgraded your graphics to the latest drivers? Tried a defragment of your main hardrive? Just some suggestions, one of them might resolve your problem.

I crash at a zone load over and over close to the end. Kinda stuck now. It's pissing me off.

Yeah, the game keeps crashing on me during the intro... odd, since it ran HL2 fine and I turned HDR off... well, I'm going to try and verify the files, and see if that fixes it.

Edit: Yes, I'm using an ATI card. :p

The only crashes I got, seemed to be caused by my display drivers. Are you guys all using ATi cards? I had to use the 6.4 Catalyst drivers in the end before it worked without crashing at savepoints :s

Took me nearly three hours to get it all fixed and playable... I hate you, ATi. I'll be back on nVidia when I next upgrade :D

Oh, and also.. try running it in windowed mode... that fixed another problem I had where it would get stuck loading the first level (at least). Seemed to be fixed also when I used the 6.4 drivers

Running a 6800GT so it's not just an ATI problem.

Trying the game windowed.

EDIT: Didn't help.

yay! I got it to work by updating my soundcard drivers and then turning off HDR momentarily to get by the save that was giving me trouble. But then it crashed on a load...:frown:

Geez, this game is really hard. I'm at the part with the APC and the antlion guard. It's nearly impossible to kill the guard, block the holes and kill the antlions all at once. I spawned seven vortigauts to aide me and I still couldn't get past it, lol.

Well I just finished the episode and I admit it did crash on me twice and when I tried the Episode 2 trailer it crashed to desktop but eventualy it loaded up (I just sat and waited) good game, too short, can't wait for more. And on a personal note I like the hard diffuculty in this game better then HL2, its harder!

The first time I played through it ran perfectly, not ever a drop in framerate. The second time, I turned on the commentary (Love it). First thing I noticed wrong was all the text was garbled. When I got to the first load after the van throwing scene, the sounds starts studdering and I have to reboot. Ever since then I haven't been able to restart Episode 1. It shows the Valve guy in a weird non full screen mode then crashes. Not really that mad about it since I already beat the game. Just annoying because I want to hear the commentary.

Every third time I save my game, I crash and have to restart my whole PC.
Still managed to get through the game, but that was damn annoying.

It didn't crash on me once.

1.7ghz Athlon
1gb cheap 3200DDR ram
9600se

I played in Widescreen 1280 x 768, and it ran fine. It would only blip a bit when something extreme happened, or when I went to quick save. The majority of you have better PCs than I do, so what the hell were you doing?

I've had no troubles whatsoever, even when windows minimized it to finish a download, it was as stable as anything.

When i played the ep2 video, it quit the game to use the steam media player thing, then loaded the game back up when finished.

Well for me, it has stopped loading saved games. Every time I try, the bar gets 1/2 to 2/3 the way through and my computer completely locks up, forcing a restart. What I found works is starting a new game and then loading my saved game. Oh and I also get a minute or so of studdering upon initial load. Other than that its a great game. Great action, great music, great visuals, bad bugs.

Didnt crash once, played the whole thing in 2 launches.

7800gtx
fx55
1gig 2.2.2.5

It crashed once at the beginning where you gotta knock off this car with the Gravity Gun to get it out of your way.
Did a system lockup. Found out it the system was overheating (was a hot day today. Plus you can just feel pure heat coming out of the fans).
Moved it forward to give it more air to "breath". Didn't crash since then.

Okay I give up, its just getting worse and worse. Now it crashes every time I

1.Save manually, quicksave, autosave

2.Load manually, autoload, quickload

3.Get attacked in any way or form by an antlion guard

4.Kill an antlion guard

5.Participate in the scripted sequence immediatley after I kill the first antlion guard

I have:
1.Defragged
2.updated my drivers
3.reverted to more stable drivers
4.turned on and off every option
5.ran in windowed mode
6.disabled every process on my computer
7.tried to noclip and cheat my way past problem spots
8.validated content
9.deleted content and reinstalled

and still, it crashes continuously with looping sound and no hope of revival.

Here are my specs, if that makes any difference to this sad, sad tale:
ATI 9800 pro
AMD 3400+
2 Gigs ram
Soundblaster audigy 2 ZS

Try putting the sound down to Medium? I always do that, and there's hardly any difference at all.

I put the sound on low, and even tried it with -nosound. I still had no luck

What kind of Advanced graphics settings do you have? My system recommends High on everything, but I always put it down a notch on each one. Uhhhm. Try Windows Update, see if anything on there updates that might stabilise something. I really have no idea, so i'm just suggesting pretty much anything...

...

ran flawlessly for me
even after a warning about out date drivers

athlon64 3000
evga 6800GS
sb live 5.1
xp pro

This game was AWESOME!!! I didnt have any problems running the game at all. The ending was cool, i cant wait to see what happens next. The trailer for Episode 2 was outstanding!! holy crap im pumped.

The only issue I've had is that it crashed the first time I tried to watch the teaser. Other than that, it's been flawless :)

I've rekindled my hl2.net login details to post because I'm having the same problem. Crashing at different points and forced to reboot.

I'm a 4000 sandiego
1gb ddr
x800xt.

For me, it crashed three times (once randomly and then twice at low life's elevator). I think it was because of ATI's crappy new catalysts. I downgraded to 6.4 and it worked cool. The sad thing was that steam decided to re-decrypt already decrypted files, so as you might guess, it ruined HL2E1 gcf so i had to reinstall. Lol.

I only crashed once -- And that was during a loading point..

And why don't I have the new "GFX Level"..I figured that my video card would be able to handle it..Considering it was top of the line (And still is close to) for a while..7800GTX Yes.

When it gets to EP2 trailer it is not a crash. It seems to close and reload HL2 EP1 while showing the Trailer (WMV) first and then going to the main screen.

Yeah - First time I did that I was like "WTF?" But the movie plays right after Mr. VALVe shows up on the screen...

Didn't crash once for me, guess I'm blessed.
