I've got...$700 to spend on a notebook as a grad present, I get to pick it out.
I've never shopped for a notebook before so I don't really know what to look for.
So, Centrino, Sempron, or 64?
SiS, nVidia, or Intel?
Help me!

What do you play to do on it?
Games?
Coding?
Pictures?
Documents?

Probably internet surfing and taking notes at college.
Image editting....maybe.
And maybe coding, if I get into it.
Can't do any gaming with a $700 laptop ;)

not bad for that laptop dell makes high quality laptops

If you really want to, core duo is better if you want to multitask on your laptop. Dont forget that it's $79.99 shipping and $19.99 shipping insurance ($100 total) so the price you pay will be $750 + possible tax.

I'm not to concerned about multitasking, at most I'd be using AIM alongside whatever I'm currently working on (text documents, whatever)...don't need all that much power.

I guess what I'm looking for would be something that I could use mostly for school, occasionally use for movies, very rarely for games. So graphics power isn't really necessary.
So web surfing and homework are my top priorities...I could probably go with a cheaper laptop but I like having more options.
EDIT: Found this:

Shipping is atrocious but if his claims are correct than it'll still be a great deal.
I dunno, reading all of it, I get a bad gut feeling. I'll keep looking.
Hah, I was right:

Same dang laptop, sold for the same excuses.
They're probably stolen.

And then there's:

But it's emachines >.<
Yet another emachines:

And one final emachines:

Decisions decisions.

I have a feeling I'll pay alot more for less when going the retail route, though I've thought about it.

True but sometime there are good deals on semi beast laptops let say a 800 lap top with 1gb ram amd 64 wifi and the goodies it doesnt matter just keep surfing i guess youll find something

TigerDirect.com often has some seriously amazing deals on laptops that are nicely powered and well-within your price range. Acer is a good place to start looking...

Plus, even with a less-than-top-of-the-line laptop, you can get a few emulators/ROMs and have all of your NES, SNES, Genesis games and more, not to mention most older adventure games thanks to ScummVM and DOSBox. Enjoy!
