I am undertaking the endeavor of acquiring various hardware items ordered over the internet, then placing them together so they form a working computer. A working computer capable of playing the upcoming games of this year and hopefully the games fourteen months away. Here's my current list of components, please feel free to tell me your opinion on my current setup and how I might improve upon it to lower it to a reasonable price range.

I'm planning on going all out with the full case-mod thing and huge-ass monitor thing. I hardly ever participate in LANs so I'm going for the behemoth rig at an affordable price, over the new, "small form factor" PCs that seems to be the fashion. That being said the total price of the below listed items is out of my current price range and some things will need to be cut in favor of a cheaper alternative. Feel free to suggest this cheaper alternative.

My list of components:

Radeon 9800 Pro
Asus P4C800-E Deluxe
Mitsumi 3.5 inch floppy Drive (black)
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS
Klipsch ProMedia ultra 5.1
Antec 480W Power Supply with Blue LED Fan
Corsair TWINX1024-3200LLPT 400MHz 1GB DDR
Pioneer DVD ROM Drive P/N 120S 16X
52x/24x/52x CDRW
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ CPU
NEC-Mitsubishi MultiSync FE2111SB
Zalman Copper CPU Cooler
Microsoft Multimedia Keyboard and Intellimouse
Antec LifeStyle Series ATX Midsize Tower

Total Price: Around $2,600 dollars is just my guess. One of you can take the time to total it up.

(I believe all the links work and it took me some time to set all this up so any productive feedback is appreciated.)

You know, the next-gen cards are going to be here very soon. So it would be wise to wait a few months and buy one of those. Even if you don't plan to buy one, you should still wait to build your system until after they have been out for a while, seeing as the price for that 9800 Pro will drop quite a bit.

ARE YOU CRAZY??? the DAY that the 6800 ultra in announced, you decide to build a PC that'll be out-dated in 45 days or less!

and get it all from one place, it's hell if u don't.... trust me

If someone adds up the price of all those things I'll send you a pretzel through the mail.

Well, first hting first, you can't get a althon64 with a pentium4 mobo. The processor won't fit/the chipset wouldn't know what to do.

If you need to make it cheaper, and you're not a hardcore overclocker, i'd suggesting getting an Asus A7N8X Mobo or an Abit NF-7 mobo, and a Athlon XP 2500+ (or a bit higher)

And then when he tries to nuild it after the 6800, the new next gen cards will be released. It's an ongoing cycle guys. Either he buys it now or never.

but if he waits a month, he'll be at the top of the cycle!
