In the past, lawyer Jack Thompson has made it publicly known that he wants to "destroy" Rockstar Games. Recently, the lawyers for Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two Interactive Software, filed a lawsuit against Thompson. Jack probably figured he couldn't win and that jail time might have been in his future, so he has agreed to the following:
1. Jack Thompson will not sue or threaten to sue to block sale or distribution of any game published by Take Two or its subsidiaries (i.e., Rockstar).

2. Jack Thompson will not communicate to Take-Two or anyone doing business with T2 (retail stores like Target) any accusation that the company committed any wrongdoing by selling its games. Thompson is not restricted from criticizing the content of T2 games, nor is he prevented from acting as counsel in lawsuits brought against Take-Two by other parties.

3. Jack Thompson will make any future contacts with T2 through its attorneys.

For its part, Take-Two has agreed to dismiss the federal lawsuit and Thompson will drop his counterclaim. T2 has also agreed to drop the Bully contempt of court matter. There was to have been a hearing on the case this morning, and Thompson could potentially have been jailed if he were found to be in contempt by a Miami-Dade County judge.

while I agree T2 should have went in for the kill I'm not surprised by this turn of events and probably figured they didn't want to risk losing.

Knowing Thompson, he'll find a way to get his "message" known.

I say T2 should have gone all the way with this. Sure, it got him off their backs, but T2 should have thought of how he is hurting the entire industry with him claiming the VT shootings were caused by gaming for starters.

At least it's a start.

But he can't say "this guy trained for murder by playing GTA".

That's the biggest win in my oppinion.

I think T2 made the right choice to keep him out of jail.

Their options were to either throw him in the slammer, where he'll spend maybe 5 or 10 ass slammingly cruel years in jail, then be released, free to harass the gaming industry un-restricted.

Or, to tell him to "**** off, leave our games alone", and shut him up forever.

The outcome is still better. Now there's one less company for him to harass. If he went to jail, upon release, he could bug them ALL, unrestricted.
 
Well let's hope other companies follow suit.

I had to comment again. Jack Thompson annoys me. This seems like the equivalent of blaming a gas station owner for selling fuel that allowed you to drive your car into a tree.

He doesn't deserve my time or attention, yet every-time his name pops up, I feel like I have to read it.

About Counter Strike:

Who doesn't know how to shoot a gun? You point it at someone and pull the trigger.

To make another point, playing hundreds of games of Ms.Pac-Man never taught me how to eat, made me better at eating, made me want to eat constantly, or turned me into an 'eating machine', even though I ate millions of dots and was rewarded for eating fruits.

lol @ Jack Thompson flaming Microsoft for counterstrike. I think he writes these letters so he has ammunition to go after these companies at later times, saying "I warned them to pull the plug, they didn't and now more people are dead." I'd just file this one as harassment.

There's a bigger possibility that he was playing the game on PC but Thompson feel it's important to ignore this fact, otherwise he couldn't write that it was published by Microsoft in his complaint.

Exactly Hypnosos, that's why he makes me so mad. He knows damn well he can't blame Bill Gates. If he doesn't, then he really is dumber than shit, doesn't know how to do any reaserch to back his claims(including something so simple as to use google)and so he must be bullshiting, or else why is he getting any attention, other than for being a dumb-ass then? ANswer: He hates violent video games, and he will stoop to any level to try and blemish and destroy them.

Come now no one plays CS on the xbox so your not making too many murderers now are you? The millions are on the PC and he probably knows that.

Who would you rather sue money wise, Valve or MS? Ms has a lot more money and a lot more to loose than valve.
 
30 million or so gamers in the US. It's amazing that one kid who didn't even have video games in his dorm room can potentially affect the 29 million 999 thousand 999 gamers that don't go around shooting people and wouldn't even consider doing so.

To quote one of the best stand up comedy routines of all times:

Chris Rock: [On the US school shootings] Everybody is wanting to know what music were the kids listening to, or what movies were they watching. Who gives a f*ck what they was watching! Whatever happened to crazy? What, you can't be crazy no more? Should we eliminate crazy from the dictionary?
 
Think of the possibilities people, jail time! Now he's gonna bash video games in general or move to other companies. :(
 
Maybe all developers and publishers can just collectively sue him.
