Hatsune Miku is a rising star in Japan and abroad, singing catchy J-pop that matches her blue-green hair. She's also a virtual avatar created by Crypton Media using Yamaha's Vocaloid voice synthesizer. That hasn't stopped her from amassing a legion of fans who really love her work. I mean really love it. Check out the crowd frantically waving glow-sticks and singing along...

NG Resonance?!?!?
Congratulations to you for that reference. I remember many an idle weekday night trying to figure out whether you could look up her skirt (for those who wish to try it, the answer is no.). Back on subject, is there someone who programs the lyrics into her or something?

EDIT: Come to think of it, can you look up her skirt?

NG Resonance?!?!?

First thing I thought of too. I wonder if there are youtube clips from her. I recall the music being pretty good.

This is pretty cool though. Kinda like what the Gorillaz do. I'd go see something like this, if it weren't anime.

Oh damn I just realized it was stern who posted this. Usually just look at the avatar for recognition.

Welcome to the club!

Yeah, it's harder to tell who's who when KA is in bad cop mode.

Japan, at the forefront of using advanced technology in creepy ways.

so there is this tecnology able to create real holograms and is used on this?

the ironic thing is that my browser is set to default to not view images unless I want to. so didnt/wouldnt have noticed without his post

No, theres just a semi-transparent screen on the stage that gets the renders projected on them.

So? We have Justin Bieber.

And who the **** is Justin Bieber?

It's very impressive, not only the hologram, but also that that voice is totally simulated and the producers can be assured that she will never go crazy and shave her head unless they want her too. And despite my largest expectations I don't hate the song either, though something tells me I would if I could understand they lyrics.

I wish they'd put that energy into making decent music instead. Seriously, has any good music ever been produced in Japan? If so I haven't heard it.

I don't see why the crowd are going so crazy for her, I mean it's not like she recognizes them doing so or anything.

Pretty amazing. I'll be more excited when it's Teto and not Miku, though.

William Gibson in 'everything he says comes true' shocker. This one wasn't that hard to guess at, I suppose, but then again who would believe that anyone would be interested in listening to a pretend pop star?

More of a HOMOgram! ohhhoooo yea!

But srs, the technology is great, its going to be intresting to see where it goes in the future or if they can do it with recorded data rather then CG.

Also saw Polysics like 2 years a go, not much into jap-rock? but it was a fun night :)

Polysics are very good. Thing with Japanese music is i like the odd song by the odd band, but on the whole they're either too samey or too varied in their songs, it's wierd.

And as for Miku, impressive visuals no doubt but... seriously, it's not a real gig...

Also that supercar video has a very strange ending...

More interesting than a real pop star.

Metalucifer is really tight. The current lead guitarist will blow your ****ing mind. Weird; almost joke band, saved every time by the guitarist.

Metalucifer was formed by the singer from Sabbat, which was a really good black metal/thrash band, formed in the 1980s.

Part 1 of Sabbat's 60 minute song -

LOOKS LIKE ALL THE WEABOOS CAME OUT OF THE WOODWORK TODAY

I didn't know Merzbow was Japanese!

Hmm, some of this stuff is rather good. I stand corrected.

You ass. I was going to be the cool guy in this thread that referenced Idoru.

There are a shit ton of songs remade with Miku (and a variety of other voice synths in the Vocaloid program) and it's a huge hit in Japan. I'm not very fond of it but hey.

When I saw this I thought it said "Pornstar." Oddly enough it made more sense that way.
