So, in light of the recent news about a remake of Seven Samurai, my daily lunchtime surf™ had me stumble upon this:

http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=18945

Having seen the original, enjoying it but not exactly being blown away by it, I'm sure there are folks here who are more into the cult following the movie received, and who wish to cry bloody murder. Especially when they notice the producers latest movie.

So, if any of you are caught in a certain zone at a certain time, say cheerio to your necks.

Seriously, this is poor, it's only 6 freakin years old

What the ****?!

The movie's only 6 ****ing years old!
Jesus christ...

God help us all.

At least Scorese's remake of Infernal Affairs looks good :(

Like I mentioned, I didn't think the movie was as brilliant as I'd heard, but unfortuunately news like this only cements the fact there are people getting paid a fortune to come up with zero new ideas.

The book is much better, but the movie is fine too. The sequel on the other hand...

Battle Royale 2: Requiem

Just...don't even bother. It has an interesting concept and could've been good, but the director just couldn't deliver it.

If you like action, its a bit well done, but it fails in conveying a clear message as its predecessor.

Hmmm... this is funny, because something tells me they'll make it college students. People don;t seem to mind when college kids die. But for some reason we have a problem with violence towards anyone younger.

Also, as an aside, afaik Battle Royale has yet to be released in the US.

"But clearly being just six years old isn’t a bar to the mighty warriors of the remake patrol."

hahaha

I fixed your statement.

Watch Infernal Affairs. Scorsese's The Departed has had mixed reactions so far. Besides, Infernal Affairs has two of my favorite actors. It's a good movie, but certainly very derivative.

The Departed has been seen? I don't remember hearing about it at any of the film festivals.

Here and here are two reviews from AICN

Ehh. If he edits some of the footage out, the film can be great as it sounds. I wished he had kept the original ending though.

Haven't seen Battle Royale, been meaning to but can't seem to find it... but something tells me a US remake will fail to convey the same sense of brutality the original seems to have.

Loved Infernal Affairs, I'd be iffy about a remake... especially with a leading cast like this...

Leonardo DiCaprio .... Billy Costigan
Matt Damon .... Colin Sullivan

=/

Edit - Reviews are less than assuring. Think I'll steer clear.

Seriously, especially with the problem the US has with violence done against high schoolers. But somehow it's alright to do violence towards adults. This country makes no sense sometimes.

I love Battle Royale. I was about to start crying while reading the article in the first post. :(

Oh yeah btw the sequel was really horrible. Just pretend it doesn't exist.

The original is banned here :O Too violent I think.

I'll see if i can find a good torrent.

It was a matter of time before somebody would have jumped on it. But I hope Quentin Tarantino is the director. Because he did get the school girl in Kill Bill part 1 Chiaki Kuriyama which played in Battle Royale.
