So, I finally re-found my old copy of counter-strike. I've never used this copy before. I try an register it to steam, and it gives me and error about duplicate CD keys.

eh?

Fearing the worst, I hastily see how to reset a cd key. However, I am a twelve year old kid. I do not have a printer to print out the CD key reset form, I'd have to mail them the original CD key sticker, and make out a check to valve? Oh, great, 8-10 weeks for my CD key back. Only a few months.

I beg you, is there an easier way? Can I maybe get a support ticket, or call tech support?

Try calling them and bring some concrete, bulletproof, non-beatable proof that they'll have to believe.

Will that have a slight chance to work, though? I do not know which section of Valve has power of CD keys (do they have a number?) valve has been pretty "no negotiations" before.

I'm 13.
I can reverse my computer from being KILLED by stupid viruses.
Why dont you have a printer?
?!!?!?!?!?!?
Uhh...
D:
Sorry. I'm not going to post anymore.
(Get a printer!)

12 and 13 year olds? I'm certain Steam asks you to be 16 years or older to play anyway.

If your CD Key is in use then perhaps you've made a previous Steam account and installed it before, or someone else did in your house.

Something doesn't make sense here, you "found your old copy of CS to reuse". YOUR old copy, and yet you are 12 years old, how old were you when you were buying games, 6? I had trouble spelling 'computer' then, let alone playing CS.

Also, are you talking Condition Zero or regular Counter Strike? Because you have apparently played Opposing Force and therefore must have a valid CD-key (or two) for the use of the original CS.

It was my older brothers friend's copy, but he left for college a few years back. He gave it to my brother, who had no use for it and tossed it to me. That long ago I didn't care for it and dropped it some where. Now, much more adept at computers (we had dial up back then; I got on to do school reports and that was about it). Sorry for the mess up, but I guess I feel the proper owner of the copy now and labeled it as such.

It IS on my brothers old friends account, and since he passed it on, I need to know how I can reset it. Understand, this friend move far for college, and we have no contact with him anymore.

Parental supervision. >__>

Counter-strike. Came off a platinum pack, I guess. =/ Its just a sleeve with the CD key taped on the back.

If it's CS 1.6 you're after, you may as well just track down a cheap Half-Life 1 pack and have the whole lot (HL, OP4, BS, TFC, CS, DOD, DMC). In the end that'll cost about as much and be less effort than trying to reset the key. The CS / CS Condition Zero pack is only $10 through Steam as well.

Check any existing CD-Keys for Valve products in your house to see if you can get the pack though. Sierra-era Half-Life, Opposing Force, Blue-Shift and Counter Strike CD-Keys entitle you to the whole hog, and each are individually valid. One of those keys may have never been entered.

Now, get back to your forest and start working on curing that curse.

There we go. That's why it's a duplicate CD Key. You're going to have to either...
A.) Do the whole check/mail/printer thing....
or
B.) Just buy another copy. It's very cheap. Do some extra chores and get the money... My best bet is B.

Buy Blue Shift from a shop and enter the key code from that. That got me:
Counter-Strike
Opposing Force
Half Life
Day of Defeat
Deathmatch Classic
Half Life: Blueshift
Ricochet
Team Fortress Classic

I'm 13, I didn't know you had to be 16??

Thanks for everyone's helpful responses. I was almost afraid of being banned for suspiscion of stealing a key. >_<

I'll just buy another platinum pack (Thanks for all of your help, saved me a bunch of time :) )

cheers.
