Joe Plumber

I never heard of a plumber that makes over $250,000 a year. This is pure bullshit.

I think it was a case that he wanted to buy the business he worked for (I guess the owner was selling it), but the fact that he seemed to think life of death on his decision rested solely on whether he pays 39 or 36% tax above $250,000 seems to indicate that he was some kind of republican plant tbh. If it was 10 or 20% more I could understand getting antsy, but 3%.... GTFO of here ...

McCain needed new material to discuss at the debate. Might as well manufacture it.

The plant theory would go some way towards explaining why McCain relentlessly tried to stick to talking about Joe, even when it seemed obvious early on that it was a contived bit of shite which would eventually sicken viewers. McCain had clearly decided or been advised beforehand that 'Joe the Plumber' should appear in the bulk of his debating points, which seems bizarre if he's just an everyday heckler who just popped up to hassle Obama on the trail.

However I'm not really convinced he was a plant... There really are enough entrepeneurs around who just regurgitate the Republican chapter and verse for Joe to have appeared from their ranks, and the McCain campaign really are retarded enough that they think focussing on one random guy is a winning debate strategy.

from somewhere else:

Joe the plummer.

- Does not have a plumbing license (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27207215/)

- Make much less then 250k and would actually get a large tax cut from Obama, definatly larger then the one from McCain.

- Is not registered to vote. (http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/1008/Joes_registration.html)

- If he did take over the Plumbing buisness, and made more then 250 he would be part of a very elite group of 663,608 taxpayers with business income, or business losses, will fall into the top two tax brackets in 2009.

- Most small businesses make much less then 250k

- Most small business get a tax break from Obama

I love factcheck.org

It's my bread and butter for the political season.

So he was a plant then? Jeez that is so fail Republicans.

The whole thing is as ass-crazy as the Republican campaign has been thus far. So shady and idiotic.

So people thought this was a real event? Come on guys, I thought you all were smarter than this. I remember the first time McCain brought up "Joe the Plumber" I thought "****ing bullshit, no plumber makes 250 grand, and if he does then he wont give such a huge god damn about paying 3% more, nor would he be upset that Obama is giving him 50% off on healthcare plans for his employees if he goes with the plan obama proposes."

It was obvious. Plus once he called him "Joe the plumber" instead of Joe *lastname* you should've known it was fake as shit and just some figurative construct meant to make McCain look better in the eyes of common people.

He is registered to vote, his name is Samuel J. Wurzelbacher, he voted Republican last election.

http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2...the-spotlight/

One week ago, Joe Wurzelbacher was just another working man living in a modest ranch house near Toledo thinking about how to expand his plumbing business. But when he stopped Senator Barack Obama during a visit to his block this weekend to ask about his taxes, he set himself on a path to being the newest media celebrity — and, like other celebrities, found himself under scrutiny.

Right. He's not made up guys, even Obama acknowledged that he talked to him while on his campaign trail.

Fact is, McCain tried to use it to swing his way, and it backfired. It was detrimental to McCain's cause, and a very bad strategy to continue trying to make it work throughout the night. The first time he said 'Joe the plumber', I laughed out loud. Pitiful.

It was an attempt to appeal to the kind of people that we see in the extreme McCain supporter videos. However, these people didn't need any convincing; he had them at non-black.

What he should have done is try to win some new voters over.

No ones implying the guy was made up, he clearly exists as a person, it's just the question seemed fabricated (hey there, how would you like to make shiny dollar? go ask the man over there this question...). Anyhows it seems like it's all blown up in McCains face thank god.

I dont really think he was a plant. . .and im fairly sure mr. mccain didnt pay him off either.

i'm pretty sure he's just a rabid republican that wanted his 15 minutes of fox news fame.

but who can blame the guy really.

either way, this is stupid. god i hate politics

*crawls back into the games discussion section*

Obama walked-up to him at-random.

The plant-conspiracy bids the questions; Why Holland, Ohio?, Why that question to specifically prompt the words 'share the wealth' in the answer?, and Why Joe 'n not someone articulately, heartwarmingly metro-sympathetic ?
