ATI all the way baby!

EDIT: One thing I should mention that I forgot about from my tour, was that Gabe mentioned one of the top issues they were currently tackling was Geforce 2 optimization...so there's to the naysayers that think Valve sold out to ATI and don't give a flip about NVIDIA performance.

Also, he said that they were coding the game to take advantage of the new line of cards that have yet to be announced. Obviously the 9800 XT is a part of this, but I would assume Gabe was also insinuating a contribution from NVIDIA as well. Hopefully they've tackled that issue with dx 9 performance in the upcoming line of cards.

9700 pro for me...good poll options. Let's hope this doesn't turn into an argument/flame thread!

I'm pretty happy with my ti4400.

9800x this christmas or next march.

Poor Nvidia! :(

Congrats to Spitcod for making Stryder rank.

I have a AIW 9700 pro and its a dream. i can run just about everything with 6x AA and 16x AF without any lag at all! I cant wait to see what this puppy can do in HL2.

Sir, that is a wonderful avatar. You have made my day

I think with a res of 10x7 and 6x aa with 16x fa you will have max of 20fps. (using 9700)

do you agree?

I'd say 40 Gorgon... maybe.

I wonder why no one's getting an nvidia soon? They are teh rox0r j00 b0x0rs!!!

i have ati and im happy...

but wheres the "i have nvidia and im pissed right the **** off" choice?

I'm sure that's right for the AA and AF settings, but I remember Gabe saying in an interview a while back, in regards to system requirements, that if you have a 2 ghz with a 9700 Pro, with all details turned up at a resolution of 1280x1024, then you'd get about 40 fps. I don't know if he was referring to AA and AF as well (probably not).

what if i have a geforce and switching to ATI? cause thats what im doing. the geforce 4 ti 4200 was great, but im going all out this time with the all-in-wonder radeon 9800 pro. anyone with that card and happy with it? i mean if the 9800 pro is great then a built in tv tuner MUST be better.

I have an AIW 9800 Pro and its gaming bliss. You can't go wrong. If you don't plan on using the TV tuner or the other included software (which in total is a really good value when you take a look at how much these programs usually cost retail) then just go with the regular 9800 Pro. But if you have the extra $50 for the AIW, I'd definetely go with that. It really is a phenomenal piece of hardware.

Dude where do you get your avatars? All of them that I've seen rock.

I have a GF4 ti4200 at the moment and I'm upgrading my RAM to 768mb and getting a 9800 non pro which I'll probably overclock to a pro. The GF4 was probably the best DX8 card you can get. But the FX5xxx series is certainly not the best DX9 card.

I can run games like R6 3: Raven Shield with FSAA x4 and AF x8 with full details and 1024x768 and still get a framerate of at least 40-50.

I am going to get one of Nvidia's newer cards that come out next year... i have faith they will win the graphics battle... Nvidia pwns

ya i own a 5900u and im somewhat a bit dissapointed but, im gonna strike down on the next top of the line card as soon as it hits and i wont be making this mistake again :p

Where's the option for:

"I've got a NVidia, I'm not happy about it, but I'm gonna have to live with it anyhow"?

ive got a FX5200 128mg

but i want a radeon 9800pro 256mg

i should be able to play Hl2 easily with my current rig but i want the best.

*i can run BF1942 Desert Combat mod with full details and sound with 2X AA with 64ppl and not lag* so i should be able to play HL2 till i get the money for my new rig right?

*i have £200 as of now with a target of £500 and saving £90 a week, my dad said he might be able to help me get the money quiker but im gonna have to pay him back witch is fine with me*

isnt that what got you in this situation in the first place?

i would say 20-40 fps. i would easily turn it down to 4x AA and 8x AF for more performance. i like eye candy but id rather have more that 20 fps :)

also the AIW is great. i love being able to watch TV on my computer. Ive also heard rumors that the AIW is a little bit faster than the normal pro (i dont know if thats true or not).

I'm the only one who voted "getting nvidia" because I need a PCI card, and the GeForce FX5200 is the only one with DX9. And no, I can't upgrade my system to get AGP because I'm broke ;(

Thanks for clearing it up.

but I think you can get MOBO for bedget poeple around £50, it will has AGP.

aw gorgon, all this time i thought you had been making your own av's :(.

I recently bought a Hercules Prophet 9800 Pro 128MB DDR (a slightly tweaked version of ATI's Redeon 9800 Pro 128MB DDR) and I'm happy with my choice. I almost bought a GeForce FX 5900 Pro 256MB DDR. Looking at the current state of play I'm glad I went with the ATI based card.

you have a motherboard with no AGP and you're wasting your money on a PCI video card? what are the rest of your system specs?

I think they meant to be 10.000 they forgot to pput the points.

this is an aquamark score...it's not in FPS...it's in aquamark units. so no, they didn't mean 10.000. they just shouldn't have labeled the x-axis frames per second

Yeah seriously my friend, don't waste money on a PCI graphics card now, just save some and get a system with an AGP slot. You have bigger problems with your kit than just the video card if you haven't got one already! :(

Agreed.
I have a 4200 ti -> 9600 pro.
I hope it will increase the performance much

I read at a hardware site that catalyst 3.8 will push ATI9800pro 2.5-5% only. But for 9800xt they think will be a giant step for the card.
