I'm sure that none of you knew this, but noted BBC Documentary filmmaker and director Jonathen Gili died last night.

He's reponsible for a large number of Timewatch programmes, and edited the film 'Overlord' in 1975. He's worked with the noted historian Simon Schama, among others.

He was diagnosed with Leukemia 19 years ago, the doctors gave him a couple of months. However, he kept fighting every moment and lived on.

He was also my uncle. And a father to 3 extrordinary children (now grown up)

He never made a big thing of his illness, never let him get him down, just got on with his life, and lived it to it's fullest.

Join me in saluting this great man, who was loved by all he met, a superior director, and a great uncle.

You will never be forgotten.

/me salutes Jonathen Gili

I've heard alot of him and especially his work with Overlord.. Can't believe he was your uncle and that he was the one struggling recently.

I salute you, Jonathan. Greatness is one word I always had associated with your name and I always will. Your greatness lives on in your offspring.

Carry his spirit with pride, Harry.

RIP Mr Gili

if he were my uncle, i'd be extremely proud.

it sounds like he lived his life how he wanted, for his family and for his career. use it as an example that we can all learn from.

a toast to greatness.
