Jump Bug in Citadel (Spoilers)

Guys,
Not sure if anyone has this problem... I get the gravity gun upgrade and find that I am unable to jump anymore whilst in the citadel. This is a major PITA, especially as I reach a point where I have to jump over a small railing and I can't - I have tried reassigning the keys and restarting HL2 and Steam - but the bug remains...
In exasperation I hit escape to save it - hit escape again to go back to the game... and err I jumped... weird. Now it seems I have to hit esacpe twice very quickly (and pause the game) to jump.
Anyone got any ideas how to get Freeman jumping properly again?

I've seen other people suffer from this bug as well, and at the same point too.

Starting a new game at the Citadel chapter might fix it. If you are much further on than that in the chapter than the start, map codes would be quicker to save having to do it over again.
