Just a Thought: American Egos

I was at lunch today with some of my friends and started discussing about America (yes my friends and I are complete nerds!). The main topic was how the American People really have a sense that they are the best. Americans want the best cars, have the best currency, they need the biggest, loudes music and have the biggest loudest orcestras to play them. Now while yes, we all agreed that we Americans think we are the best, in reality we really are not. I mean yes, we a a strong power in the world, but not everything in this country is great. For an example, lets use Afganistan and the Taliban. Afganistan is a 3rd world country and very rual. But it is my belief that they have the most superior organized crime ring in the World. I mean come on, what American gang has been so organized as to send not one, not two, but three planes into buildings. Now, don't get me wrong, im not necessarily saying that it was a good thing, but it makes me wonder: just how great and how much power does America really have?

i'm not sure what yur getting at, u mean america isn't that great because people from a 3rd world country successfully destroyed the towers? Or are u saying america isn't that great because its gangs aren't well organised...

No, im saying that people in this country really need to open their 3y3s and take a good look at the world around them. Im using 9.11 as an example.

i c. Well USA has kinda been losing their grip as the one superpower. I think in like twenty years china is gonna be pretty close. They're starting to industrialize and have been taking away jobs from america cause they have low labour costs.

I agree, America will decline as a Superpower because they are unpopular and disliked around the world. Now I'm not saying that all Americans are bad, deceiving people, but they are now even more ignorant than the Frenchies.

we wont decline, we will just die and take the whole ****ing world with us.

****ing bush

well look at what bush is doing. He keeps commenting on how good the economy is and he's setting record deficit. How does he still have the majority of people saying they think he's doing a good job? It baffles me how someone can actually believe what he's saying. He's a coward too. During vietnam war his dad got him moved from air force to domestic air guard or soemthing so he wouldn't have to go. He avoided going to war, and then sends thousands to iraq to risk sacrificing their lives for him, yet he wouldn't go himself.

The war in Iraq will end just like it did in Vietnam, the Americans can't win.

Well yes this is true. I personally dont like bush. The economy is on the verge of collapse, and states, like California need help. Now not to say that I hate republicans, because I think that Arnold is doing a wonderful job. But the reason bush is popular is A: September 11 and the new adminstrations he implemented and B: He Caught Saddam. Saddam's caputre put the final nail in bush's victory for the next election. The democrat party is in ruins and will get own3d by bush.

Yes thats is true, but dont all countries use armies to win and not their leaders.

Yea, youre probally right. Trying to set up order and peace in a land of chaos is very hard and takes a lot of conforming. The war in Iraq has now turned into a cultural war. On one side is the coalition, trying to help those who want change and democracy in Iraq, on the other are pockets of Saddam's regime.

Off topic: I personally think its annoying that the media has to announce everytime a U.S. soldier is killed when about 100,000 times that many people die daily in the world.

ya but he wasn't a leader during vietnam, so thats hardly a credible argument. And how does capturing saddam justify going to iraq? u caught him.. big deal, i dont see what difference it makes in all honesty. If u invade a country, chances are u'll probably catch its leader. Does having custody of saddam really make american deaths more justifed?

thats just immature to the subject.

What do you expect from a 12 year old american?

oh and I agree with Camon on "Off topic: I personally think its annoying that the media has to announce everytime a U.S. soldier is killed when about 100,000 times that many people die daily in the world.".

wouldn't you want to show your country on the good side? not show how many of your soldiers is getting killed?

Jon you watching the Canucks vs. New York game?

No the capture doesnt really justify the waste of lifes that is the war in Iraq. But the media and the bush admin. all poision the peoples minds with lies. They now claim that the war was for Saddam. They make him look like a really bad person (not saying he isnt) and a "threat" to America.

Good to see you don't mind contradicting yourself. :hmph:

Funny; People normally throw out the insult, then try to cover their tracks with an "I don't mean it that way."

Everyone likes to hate America these day's. It's the "in" thing to do. I love it how people from other countries think Americans are all, crazy, super-patriotic, egotistical bastards. I assure you we aren't. We realize our flaws, but we also realize our strengths, and we have opinions (which we voice) about both. And what is it with the "Americans are ignorant" crap? Sure, America has some ignorant people....just like every other freaking country in this world! But it's not like we are all uninformed twats who don't know anything about the world in which we live! A lot of Americans are stupid, but then again stupidity is a trait common throughout the human species, so it's nothing unique to us.

totally agreed, good post qckbeam. from my travels to europe and asia, and from hearing a lot of other people speak, though... it isn't "America" or the "American people" that the world hates. they hate our gov't. hell, to subvert our gov't, germany is putting up the court fees for a bookstore in town. the Tattered Cover bookstore here in Denver was asked by the federal gov't to release information on ALL people who have bought books there over the past 4 or 5 years or so. (keep in mind this is a HUGE bookstore, biggest in the country) ... so that means LOTS of people would have their privacy invaded, and you could end up on a watch list if you have bought any number of books from any number of genres. the bookstore is going to court against the gov't saying it's unconstitutional and an utter invasion of privacy. germany put up $50 million to pay court costs. why? because they hate our gov't. i personally don't blame them... in general. after all, there ARE good things about gov't of course. but our foreign policy sucks ass.

Auctually, I am an American and I'd have to agree with the rest of the country. Everywhere i go i find idiots. And I dont just mean a few, im saying that there are a ton of idiots. These people dont know their right from their left!

thats the majority problem, the US think there the world superpower, and that definately push's patriotic egotisim through the roof..( but with a Presidential election that went wrong , making this year the only year america have been out of a democracy> I think its fair to say the majority have done well in protesting their presidents false appeal to partiotism. which was aimed at strengthening his postion and political decisions, obviously :rolling:

Yea, whats really the sad part is that we will be stuck with the guy for another four years because there is nothing stopping him now from a reelection. :borg:

I think the people you guys describe are mostly the uneducated conservatives......

Fanaticaly religious........Fanatically patriotic.

well cross your fingers, and hope you can get him out next time, if not maybe you'll get lucky this year, good luck to all you guys on getting your Democracy back,, or what we all have left of what democracy origionally set out to accomplish, (its sort of been twisted in the favour of the rich now, but what can you do :( ..).. it seems to be approaching a point where its gonna back fire on itself.

(crabcakes your right, but there are alot of people like that, I think you'll agree ;( )

The kind of orginized crime we have in america isn't stupid enough to do somthing like that.

The point for them is to NOT have people know what they're doing.

I'm glad that American Organized Crime isn't "stupid enough" to take down a pair of their own buildings :)

Yes, you're so much better than the Religious, Patriotic Conservatives when you stereotype them all into a role of bitter, ignorant fools. But, God forbid anyone say such a thing about your side,...because then it becomes "politically incorrect" and "verbal opressive". But, maybe I took what you said wrong. Maybe you it in the sense of uneducated conservatives, not that all conservatives are uneducated...am I correct? Please, do tell me what you mean.

Of course, I'm sure that's what he meant. 'Uneducated' being the adejective and 'Conservatives' being the noun, adejective describing the noun and not its meaning... or whatever

Notice Ghost how he didn't say "Religious.....Patriotic" but rather, Fanatically religious........Fanatically patriotic.". There is a big difference there. He isn't talking about religious people who happened to be patriotic, he's talking about the fanatics in the country. Fanatics are ignorant, since they refuse to analyze situations from any point of view but their own, which happens to be incorrect.

Well, he could have meant all Religious people are fanatics.
You never know for sure. I was only checking.

I think qcbeam understood what i was saying. Im not generalising all conservatives..... I beleive in the philosophy "to each his own". As long as what each of us beleives and what we do does not break any laws.....i say we be tolerant of each other ..and the rest of the world, while respecting their laws within reason.

It just seems like the "fanatical" ones are the epitomy of whats wrong with america.

examples might be "your going to hell if you arent a good christain"

and even what you said "because then it becomes "politically incorrect" and "verbal opressive"."

that is the exact opposite of reality....... christains are caterd to by every corner of our government and society ...yet everytime they are called out on something...they cry about lberal opression and the like....that other religions have free reign in our society, when nothing could be farther from the truth.

they see themselves as the "true" god-fearing americans...

THAT is the ignorance and fanaticism and patriotism im talking about. its there way or the highway....they are unwilling to change.
