Just Another Reason For A Delay?!?

CS: Source Beta is going to being out pretty soon and will start pre-loading the 28th. This will mean that it will be avaible mid-august. But if Valve is going to try to get a master disc (canidate) to Vivendi on July 30th, doesn`t CS: S have to be on the discs too or will it most likely be availible just on steam. If so this could be just another reason to delay the game
your thoughts?

they want to deliver a RC. that does not mean the games is gold...

I bet they'll have the latest available version of CS Source on the RC, but since it's an online game anyway people will be able to update it before they play it - and since it's in a late beta the patch to the final (1.0) shouldn't be too big.

Logically it should be available on steam. That would speed up the release of HL2 ASSUMING that
-Valve actually have a RC ready to give to Vivendi on the 30th
and
-It is approved almost immediately for manufacturing

If they are hell bent on releasing it on CD with HL2 then we're all DOOMED. ..cough.

EDIT: ON the final HL2 boxart i see no mention of CS:S not even "CS:S INCLUDED!" Intepret that however you want but i'll interpret it as saying CS:S will availble on steam after HL2 is released for everyone who pwns hl2.

Well it depends how big the Cs:S source is, i say if its small enough it they should just put it on the disc but im guessing it will be released via steam

Of course CS:S is going to be on the RC disc they give to Vivendi. If they want it released along with HL2, it has to be QAed by Vivendi first.

Let me explain how RCs work: Valve has agreed to produce RCs on certain dates, or in certain intervals, until Vivendi is satisfied with one of them. RC1 never goes gold, there's always enough problems with a software product to warrant another RC. At my company a year ago we had a release that went through 13 RCs before gold because of idiot mistakes the programmers kept making.

The CS:S beta is meant to coincide with RC1, and any CS:S beta updates we receive will probably coinide with subsequent RC versions. Valve will probably produce RCs every one or two weeks until Vivendi approves one for RTM.

No, it is not an 'excuse' to delay the release. CS:S 'Beta' testers are simply being used to test the RCs.

If I remember correctly, all Valve stated was that CS:S was going to be made available for free to HL2 owners, that doesn't exactly mean it HAS to be on the master discs, it would make more sense to have it as an add-on through steam.

So just because your company you went through 13 RC's that means it can't make it in 1?? I do remember the fact, HL1 went gold after 1 yes one! RC...read the article on gamespot about it.

they should just release CS:S on steam, god im getting mad waiting for hl2 so long!!!!! just friggen release it on steam later if its going to take that long!!!!!

Why should the just release CS:S on steam? They are probably getting the last few bugs out of it for beta, and or polishing it....You can wait for HL2, a month to 2 months, is not hard at all

I dont think they need they need to send the CS:S to Vivendi because its a free mod, or source, so it doesnt really matter if vivendi sees it, but if thats true it will be released via steam

Although 13 RC's isn't normal at all, 1 isn't either.

Both can happen. But you'll likely have 2-4 RC's.

But again that's up to the developers.

So much fear and doubt over so small a thing....

exactly, and i've said this before, given how adament valve has been about waiting to release the game "when it's done", and have been going through a lot of testing currently, there's no reason to believe that they can't reach gold status in very few if not 1 RC. granted bugs are generally "unexpected" and anything can happen, however the chances of them reaching gold status after very few RCs are just as good as not.

I want the game when it's they feel it's worth for public consumption. Meaning that it is not bug riddent just to appease some people who don't have the patience a little more time. Games should come out within the intention that it should be as close to bug free as humanly possible.

Exactly, I think they have enough "in-house" testers there to find most "showstopping" bugs and the little annoying ones, pretty quickly, because most of the staff probably doesn't have that much to do, so they can just play hl2 over and over again. :)

yes, although you might want to point out that having more staff with nothing to do doesn't always mean more people to fix bugs. reading that HL1 story, at the end of production it was basically one guy working non-stop to fix the last bug while the rest of the staff basically sat around and waited.

Maybe CS:S is in the Special Edition?

no, valve has stated that CS:S will be available to all HL2 owners at release. they also stated that the special edition will be available at the same time as the regular retail copy so them putting CS:S in the special edition and not the regular copy is highly unlikely.

the whole point of this thread is WILL IT CAUSE A DELAY?!?!?

CS:S will most likely be released over steam at the same time as HL2. This leaves one less thing for Vivendi to scrutinize in the RC, and at the same time leaves Valve with more time to bug fix and beta test CS:S, while not putting more of a delay into HL2 since they can continue to work on CS:S while vivendi manufactures HL2.

So most likely, no.

it wont be delayed... it'll come out in November as previously planned :D.

*i know, im sooo optimistic*

Maybe thier tricking us maybe on the 28th they'll be proloading HL2 and CS:S, why in thier right mind would they release an add-on game for thier new source engine before the game that they designed the source for(HL2). makes no sense, it would have been like giving us Blueshift or OP4 before giving us HL1.

It's a BETA.

I don't see why they would trick us. I understand if you want to include surprise features in your final product, but to downright trick your customer base doesn't make much business sense.

hl2 causes many physical and pyschological problems after game play...valve is trying to fix this problem. :cheese:

They also said that CS:S would come with Bots... therefore they will want to ship the CS:S with half-life 2 as a singleplayer game, for those possibly buying the Single Player version of Half-life2.

Or, they just want to get everything right with CS:S before release, you can understand this, since those who only play cs (teh cs0r kidd!3$), wont really care about the HL2 singleplayer or the HL2 deathmatch multiplayer, they'll crack straight on into the New Sparkling CS, and if there are bugs and problems, then Valve will have a load of moanin cs kiddies at them.

After the release of HL2, il assume they'll all go on holiday, they wont want to be making any updates to CS.

OK then why release a beta of an add-on for your new source engine? maybe i shouldn't have used the word tricked, but what i meant is throw HL2 in thier with the CS:S preload, suprise ppl its the least they could do for the constant delays and lies.

Dear God. Some people just have no idea.

Ok, Valve say the game will be released this summer. They have till Sept 21st to do so. HL2 is pretty much done but is still being tweaked whilst CS:S goes through its short beta stage. Valve also hope to go gold in august, but even if this means 11:59pm on August 31st, then they have not delayed the game at all.

Quick answer: The beta was part of the plan all along and will not delay anything. You have no idea what you are talking about. Please be quiet.

Btw, it won't take 2 weeks to load the beta over steam. The beta will probably be downloadable in a few hours after release and people will start playing that same day.

Excuse me if I've sounded rude in this post but I do despair sometimes. :dozey:

I would imagine they could just add CS:S to the accounts of everybody who registers HL2 on steam.
No cd-keys or cd's. But it would be nice if they had a little installer on a CD in the box so we don't have to download it, even if it is just beta for the time being.
