Yeah so what im making a topic on it. It was a great game, some parts were extremelly difficult though, even though i was on normal mode. So who else has played/beat this game? What'd you think of the ending? Great game overall, dunno what to do now until Doom3.

Is it scary? I heard it was pretty scary, so yeah.. was it?

Haha, yeah I got it on PC, no problems so far I've seen. I thought I was the only one who thought it rocks! :D

I thought people loved it. Since when was it an unpopular game? :|

the first few levels were good, then it went downhill fast

No dude the game picks up, but i will admit it has it's ups and downs but only for like 10 minutes. Although, the part i HATED and REPEATED a countless amount of times was after the second boss and then escaping through the fire/fighting soldiers/monsters....it blew

Call me immature but the thread title made me chuckle.

Yeah i played through the thing more than a year ago - really cool game if i have to say so myself.....could be nice to see the same game with better graphics....not that they were bad, but the whole game just sorta felt a tad to consoley.

I did'nt think it was that scary though...

Btw if you can, you should try and get a hold of a copy of "Clive Barker's Undying" - best horror fps i've ever played (doom might hold that title when i get to play it through :D)

The graphics are a bit dated, but it has a killer story, and neat sound FX/Music.

I was thinking about getting "The Thing" when it came out but decided not to for some reason. Probably because I heard that the PC version was very buggy.

What type of adventure would I be looking at? Is there a Demo?

I'm gonna start looking...

I loved The Thing because there was one level where you could use all kinds of strategies to complete your objective. But then it turned out that that was the only level of its kind. The rest of the game is as linear as dinner.

Then more flaws popped up. I was perfect at keeping my teammates alive, but they had the habit of disappearing once the mid-level cutscenes were done. Three guys enter an elevator, cutscene, and then two guys step off.

Also, the 'blood test' devices were basically useless because your team will transform into aliens based on map triggers. A guy tested as 100% alien-free will transform literally ten seconds later if you enter the wrong room. Even if you use the tests on yourself, the guy who now has total trust in you will likely vanish during the next transition sequence anyway, taking the guns and ammo with him.

The concept of making sure your team stays sane sounds good on paper, but in practice, it never comes up. Only one friendly in the entire game ever lost it for me. And regaining trust is as simple and boring as handing the guy a gun.

The game quickly went from 'favorite' to 'meh'.

Then again, I kind of quit out of boredom after I passed that awful fire part. Am I missing much in the levels beyond?

I remember the game being very fun and a total blast to play. Mechagodzilla, The Thing has scripted events, certain stuff was suppose to occur with your teammates so you did't have a full crew 24/7.

Brought back a lot of memories from John Carpenters The Thing. If anyone hasn't seen the movie I reccomend DEFINITELY SEEING IT! It stars Kurt Russel and the guy that is the voice of the Xbox commercials. That movie perhaps had the best special effects ever made in certain scenes(Part where the dog transforms into the thing, you can almost not tell when they switch from the real dog to the fake one that transforms.)
