TR-606 and tr-707, a guy in my town was selling them for a reasonable price (roughly 500 USD) together with a midi-sync device for the 606. :)

They look and sound absolutely fantastic!

especially love the tr-606 (metallic one), it was the more expensive of the two and it's completely analogue :D

A 606! You ****ing shit ****! NARR NARR NARWSTRHWSTUT

Where the hell do you get the money to afford this crap?!

hah i knew you'd say that man :P it's so hard grasping that this little semi-legend is actually sitting in front of me

i borrowed it from my parents, currently i get an extra 100 bucks every month because my dad's not around so i'll be able to repay them reasonably soon.

Go learn to play drums instead. :P

Drum machines, especially the older kind have a very distinct sound to them. In fact, they sound nothing like real drums. They should be called Percussive Machines instead of Drum Machines. It's what gives them their unique charm.

And besides, drum machines are far more interesting IMO.

I'm pretty sure Reznor rocked a 606 somewhere on Pretty Hate Machine. Possibly "Down In it".

Crazy, you gotta start busting out some funkass Analord tunes!

Awesome Harij :D I'm really glad you're really getting serious with your music.

Make something with it!

:O

Watch some jazz drumming my friend. No drum machine can compare to that. ever.

Like so?

Can a jazz drummer do this? (Replace **** with the F word)

But really, you missed my point. I wasn't saying that drum machines are more proficient than human drummers. I find they are often instead different aesthetics. I don't expect this or this to be compared to an actual drumset because of just how incredibly dissimilar they are. However, moving into the realm of digital sampling, I find drum machines are capable of expanding into areas that are simply humanly impossible in terms of speed, sound, and so forth. Hence, why I find it more interesting.

Not better. Interesting. Nor do I expect the jazz drummer to pull out anything like this.

a real drumset and drum machine are quite different, you're not going to purchase a drum machine to substitute a situation where you want a drum set, and vice versa.

i like jazz and good drummers, but i don't have much interest in acoustic drums, at least not now and i don't have the space for a drumset anyway :P

drum machines are really awesome because they have so much charm, the programming, the sounds, everything. the 606 sounds really unique and organic, but i like programming the 707, it's alot easier (it displays tempo and the programmed pattern, plus it has more sounds), with the 606 i'm going to have to estimate the tempo until i get cables for my midi sync thing. the 606 is ALOT less responsive in the programming, with the 707 you can just drag your fingers along the buttons to fill an entire bar of something, its abit more of a struggle with the 606 :) but things like that makes it feel alot more organic, like you have to put in more work to get it to do what you want. :D

I'm going to try and record them after i get home from school. it's amazing how different the 606 samples are from the real thing, i had this track with samples of both 606 and 707 and i immediately thought like "heck, is this what i thought they sounded like?"

the 606 doesnt sound at all as thin as most of the samples, the sounds are very full, if this is the thin version of a tr-808, i don't want to know how big that one sounds! :P

Just one man. :) He's also a sexually good bass player. Not too shabby on the drums either.

He's good pals with Aphex Twin. Was actually a major influence when it came to Richard's crazy drill 'n bass stuff that he poured out on drukqs and the like.

Wow, that video fits Pro Radii so perfectly. I ****ing love that song.

Yeah, yeah much praise to HariJ, I want a drum machine :(. Get some shit recorded quick!

currently my mixer setup doesnt work together with the computer (i'm hoping to fix that soon) so you'll have to cope with somewhat crappy webcam mic recordings of the drum machines.

but i used them on this track which i finished today, i'll post a link soon

trying to beat match the 606 to the tune was a ****ing pain in the ass!

i also recorded the microkorg for some sounds and i realised its alot more fun than using vst's, even though the quality is less because of the mic.
but you can cover that up with some EQ, filter and reverb :)

maybe i'll record the drumatixxxes on their own tomorrow, i'm really tired atm..

Meh, I can't stand the sound of drum machines.

I mean, they're fun to play with and all, but i'll take a standard drum kit over a drum machine any day :D

Not saying that they suck, but me, personally, I can't stand the sound of one.

i can understand that, especially if you despise the sounds of the 80's and old synth sounds in general!

OMG I HATE 80'S MUSIC D: D: D:

But i'm loving some of your stuff off myspace :D

Your music is generic (beat and flow wise), but i'll be damned if it isn't pleasing to listen to

Sounds of the 80's and old synth sounds = my love. Thanks for the up, great track :).
