i have a system with two Serial ATA one raptor and one 160 hard drive. i have a ASus P5B deluxe and i have the raptor in the red sata slot, and the 160 in the black sata slot. the manual says the red slots are primaries and the blacks are slaves. also, could i put the windows cd in the computer again and have it format the hard drive or no? what must i do

I didn't think that sata had such thing as slave and master drives, only ide, as you can plug 2 drives into one mobo slot. Whilst with sata you plug in 1 drive per slot. How many red sata slots are there ? I would imagine there might be a number of them, and also a number of black slots as well. These may well be 2 lots of sata slots controlled by different controllers.

Try plugging the second drive into one of the red slots and see if it is detected then.

are you sure its not a sata 150 and sata II? mine is set up with 4 sata channels and whichever harddrive is on the first one is master and the rest slave.

no, you shouldn't need the windows CD again.......are you sure there is power going to the second drive?

Did you use the administrative tools to enable and format the second drive?

What about the Bios? Is it enabled in that?

btw i only have one user account on the computer. i checked control panel and it says Computer Adminstrater under that one account

The drive is connected just fine. I think you need to format the drive in order for it to appear as a useable drive under my computer. You need to use the administrative tools as mentioned above by others:

Start -> control panel -> administrative tools -> computer management -> storage -> disk management

Here you should find both drives. If you right click on the second drive it should give you the option to format it.

Click new partition ;)

wow, its done already. i clicked partition and followed the steps. the drive itself formatted in a matter of seconds. thanks alot for all your help guys!
