People say that there wouldn’t be RahXephon without NGE (Neon Genesis Evangelion ) series, and I agree. RahXephon anime greatly influenced by NGE, but it is surpasses it in every way imaginable. From style, to animation, to music, to story-telling, to story itself, everything.

You see, NGE started out like any other mediocre anime (aka Full Metal Panic). But half way through, author went into depression, this why we see mambo jumbo philosophy in the end of NGE. Feels like it was written by teenager with full of angst, who hates the world and whines a lot about it. Plus series left A LOT of unanswered questions and never really tried to address them in the first place (just like last two Matrix movies).

RahXephon, on another hand, is what NGE should have been. You know, they both have jokes, comedic relief may I call it, but RahXephon never takes these jokes too far, knows when to stop. It feels like real world, because characters are much like real people. Plus RahXephon ALWAYS rewards careful viewer. If you watch these series carefully, you will see a lot of details that will answer a lot of questions by the end. NGE didn’t have it. Plus, RahXephon has a fantastic love story, that gives you big closure in the end, and main character is not a whining idiot. Also, this is first anime that made me cry. The last time I cried was during Saving Private Rayn movie (in the end, when Ryan asks his wife if he lived a good life). This is kind of anime, that will put a mental block on your head, so you won’t be able to see ANYTHING else until you finish story, and what a grateful ending. Good ending. Good philosophy. But I must warn you, if you are not paying attention, you won’t understand anything.

If you love anime, and if you like NGE, you MUST WATCH RahXephon, it’s a classic.

Will do!

Right now I just started watching my brand new, shiny .. bootleg .. Cowboy Bebop boxset, so that should keep me occupied for a week or two.

Oh and if you like emotional anime, try Samurai X - Trust and Betrayal. But first watch 20-30 episodes of the Rouroni Kenshin series (which has a happy story more or less) to get what's going on.

Sorry, before I watched RahXephon, my favorite anime series were Cowboy Bebop and FLCL (yeah, I like crazy shit), but now everything changed. RahXephon easily takes the top over of most anime I watched (even Serial Experiments Lain).

Lone, I seen Kenshin, didn’t really like it, but I seen dubbed version, so I will try and get subbed DVDs or something. Yeah, I was planning to watch Samurai X next, but I am not a strong fan of ancient Japan.

Wanna see one of the biggest japanese anime communities on the net?

www.2chan.net

or if you perfer english

www.4chan.net

I've learnt so much about anime from 4chan, except theirs too much rei anayami over there.

edit: forgot to mention, NOT WORK SAFE

A bit of a rant, but all the major stores are crap for buying anime ..

I went around to like 5 major DVD stores (Virgin (x2), Circuit City, HMV, BestBuy, J&R) and they didn't have Cowboy Bebop (or only some parts) .. which is suppose to be like the most popular anime. Bah ..

It's about time you finished those damn shows. Now that someone has the enlightenment I achieved months ago, we can talk much about anime.

I just finished watching the Berserk series... Im sure most of you have heard of it.
...very very odd ending

I got the Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X -_-) OAV's Trust and Betrayal on VHS, highly recommended and the dubbing isn't tooo bad, cept I don't much fancy Kenshin's or Tomoe's actors. I also got the new OAV, forgot the name, it runs through every important aspect of the TV series in that same OAV animation, then describes what happens afterwards, including the birth of Ken and Kaoru's child, and what happens to Yahiko (my fav character ^^). I got the DVD and run it in Jap with subs, it's GREAT, only about an hour long but it's excellent, especially the redone battle scenes from the TV series.

As for Eva I got the first 15 eps off Kazaa and gave up on it, got too depressing for me, same reason I didn't like Lain. Kenshin can get depressing at times but I love it because it actually TELLS you things, instead of leaving you in suspence for 30 odd episodes about things I couldn't care less about anyway. I highly recommend to anyone with a little patience, read the Ruruken manga, it's the best manga ever in terms of art, and DEFINITELY for the story, it's an awesome read. I got the first 9 volumes off this site - http://pomi.sandwich.net/ruroken/ - but it's been taken down since Viz just licenced the manga. Let's hope their translation is decent =/

Past that... a friend just recommended Chobits to me, if you don't mind Shoujo clamp are pretty cool in my books =) I managed all 12 volumes of CCS so hey, hit me with what you got ^_^ And I'll be sure to check out some RahXephon real soon... has it been licenced yet? :D

Damn, I wish I had more money to complete my anime/manga collection

Well, let’s talk. You start :)

P.S. as for Berserk series, they don’t end on anime, there is much more, but only manga.

Oh Lone, I can always give you bittorrent link if you can’t find rear anime series.

Thanks, I know some good places to download from, but I don't really like the quality and most of it is fan-subbed.

I'd rather buy something on DVD if I can, if not then I try to get 20 mb/minute versions which are somewhat descent.

yep, Ive heard that before, but I don't usually bother with manga.
...Such an annoying ending for the anime. WHY! why did they have to do that.
It doesnt really fit either :| oh well it was a really good series.

This applies for Ruroken too, except in this case the anime actually caught up to the Manga, since the anime had a team and the manga was a one-man project (w00t!). They gave the author a bit of a hurry-along but he would not be hurried, so they just went along without him, past where they stopped following the manga the story was made-up by the anime writers (shudder).

[edit] - Actually I don't care for the RK anime at all, I never got past the first ep, the animation is alright but it's too colourful after looking through the manga, it moves way too quickly and the music... ugh. </rant>

Im not into action anime... im more a romatic/sad/drama anime watcher.

Im watching Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien right now and i like it very much. Im on episode 10 right now. If you feel like watching something really sad, then Kimi Ga nozomu Eien is something for you!

Edit: i love the music in the series :)

I like dark/sad anime. I love action anime as long as it has a good plot, although sometimes they waste a lot of time doing nothing in action anime.

Whats Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien about?

What did you think of Shinji's moodswings between apathy and despair?
Frankly, he got very annoying. I loved Misato. Not only because she's a female, but her assertive attitude.

Its rated #1 on animenfo.com i think.

Its hard to really write what its about... its kinda complex so you need to really watch it.

Its about 4 friends. One of the girls feels like shes an outsider so the rest of the gang wants to do something to make her happy. One of the guys goes out with her, its not really love from the start (but it is for the girl - Haruka) but it starts to grow into something more serious.

Everything is good until something very horrible happens (the first 2 eps are great, the 3:rd is really sad :/). While Haruka waits for Takayuki (for a date) Takayuki meets the other girl from the gang. Its her birthday so Takayuki buys a gift for her (eventhough he's late for the date). When Takayuki arrives at the place where Haruka was waiting for him, something really bad has happend. There was a car accident and Haruka was run over.

Haruka were in the hospital for 3 years, she were in a coma so she dont know its been 3 years since the accident. Now she missed everything she planned to do in her life. The rest of the gang grew up, got jobs and so on but Haruka dont know its been 3 years. She still thinks she and Takayuki is together but Takayuki is together with her best friend now.

The anime is a really sad one. Its happy from 1-2 but the rest is just sad.

Sorry for the crappy explanation, its full with gramma errors and spelling errors.... but hey, its early and im in school :)

You should really see it, i like it alot (and its perfect to watch together with someone you like :))

I like the animes with big stompy mechs and powered armour...

Wow, that sounds really intelligent, doesn't it?

Neon Genesis Evangelion was the best anime I've ever seen. i hv to check out RahXephon if you say it's that good.

Cowboy Bebop sicks at second and an Anime soo old that I don't remember the name stick at third.

Anyone seen the Cowboy Bebop movie? I got to see it on big screen and I wasn't dissapointed, loved the animation through the whole thing, the plot was decent enough, and the music just kicked some serious ass =)

Funny thing was there was a tall white guy with a huge aff up front watching, looked exactly like the main guy, thought he might have been cosplaying or something. But I just happened to see him at a wedding reception recently, he looks exactly the same, right down to that lame golf sweater and token aff-sideburns. What a cock...

Frankly, I didn’t like any of the characters in NGE, they all were annoying in their own way. Okay, expect Shinji’s friend (who became pilot further in the series) and Misato’s old boyfriend. And I agree that Shinji is the worst, but I think nobody likes that guy (man, to hate main character of series). I also dislike him the most in the last two episodes, he is a true idiot.

Well, good thing about RahXephon that it has strong love story that goes through whole series, and sometimes you just ready to scream “Idiot, don’t you see she loves you!” They did a good job with mixing a lot of drama with action. Watch it.

Certainly true, but I just enjoy Misato's forwardness and her will to take control of a situation even when she doesn't have to. I really admire that in people, especially women.

You like to be controled by your woman :)

Asuka is one of the best anime characters I've seen. Her character has extreme depth. Once you see past her ingrained argumentative defensive shell, there's a real character in there.

Yeah, Asuka is my favorite character in NGE. I wish I could meet a girl with a personality like that in real life .. hehe :)

LOL! Far from it. I just like women who can take care of themselves, that aren't needy and constantly dependent. That's why if I were to ever get married, I hope to God I don't, I'd like a chick that's also in the military, or someone like my friend Rachel.
I don't have feelings for her, but she is quite the type of person I could see myself with.

I freakin' loved that series, I finished it a while ago, it's great.

Too bad MayuMayu and Daikujii are the only comic relief in that series.

Do you have MSN? I know a girl to worships Asuka to the point of acting exactly like her... it's fun if you can get past the random scary Eva references...
