ahhh this makes the game sooo much sweeter to play when i can run best quality @ 1600 x 1200 !!! i love ATI :D:bounce:

Know the feeling buddy. I replaced my 9800 pro and 512 mb ram with an x800XT and 1024 mb ram and the difference is sweeeeeeeeeee-eet.

X800pro got to be a damn good one, im using a GeForceFX 5700.. pretty good actually but I want a better one...

Im planning to buy a Radeon X850, I've heard that's one of the best..
The difference is gonna be wonderful!

Wait, did he upgrade from a Pro to an XT? If so, ....

are any of the ati cards dual cored or is that just the upper end nvidia cards

It think only the XT's are dual-core, but you need a special motherboard and a quite expensive graphicscard.

So you upgraded from a X800 pro to a X800 xt? wtf is the point of that? should've waited for the new ati cards at least.

QFT

I am waiting till the new ATI cards come out (end of this month I believe) and see some benchmarks. If they turn out to be just as good or not as good as the 7800 I will be saving a lot of money. If they turn out to be better I will be out a lot more money. :bounce:

I'm guessing that he just softmodded it. The X800Pro and X800XT was intended to have a bit of redundancy. The X800XT has 16 pixel pipelines, used for pixel shaders (aka fragment programs), while the X800Pro has 12. Aside from that, the cards and chips are basically identical, so if there's a manufacturing error and one of the pipes on a to-be-XT goes kaput, four pipes are disabled and the chip is simply remarketed as an X800Pro.

Yep its great. I just went from 9800Pro, 512mb --> X800XL, 1.0gb CorsairXMS

maybe he didn't buy a new card, just flashed the bios ?

you guys are haters.

I need a new card...my 9600XT isn't cuttin it anymore :(

if he bought a new card thats cool, doesnt effect u guys at all. leave the guy alone for spending his own money.

Theres a way to softmod it... by flashing the bios twice I think... Once to unlock the extra 4 pipes and then another one to make it an XT... I read instructions about the mod once... You can also mod the later made 9800 Pro 128 to a 9800 XT 128 because some of them are made with the same core to save costs. I imagine its the same thing with the X800 Pro to X800 XT.

There are no dual core video cards at all. There's SLI (two nVidia video cards), Crossfire (two ATI video cards), and an extremely limited production of dual chip (not dual core!) nVidia cards, as seen here. Also, Crossfire products aren't on the market yet, so you can't even use two ATI cards at present.

i'll be upgrading from an X300 to X700 and getting 1 gig more of RAM, putting it at 1.5 Gigs opf RAM, u think that would also run FEAR?

I just went from FX5200 to X700 256mb and from 512 mb DDR Ram to 1gb DDR Ram and now EVERY GAWD DAMN GAME PWNS!!!

Is that a ****ing joke? Please don't tell me you are doubting an X700... that's ONE of the BEST cards around.

Best cards around? Don't be too proud. I have an X800 XL, and although it does a great job, it provides no where near the best video performance currently available. A single 7800 GTX would own my X800 XL; dual 7800 GTX's would obliterate it (by roughly twice the speed). Here are a few HL2 benchmarks: Pre-7800 Tests, Most recent tests.

I got a x700pro and have no problems running both HL2 and CSS at 1152x864 2xAA 8xAF everything maxed out. Sure it's not the fastest card, but it's a decent midrange card and that's enough for most ppl. Be sure to go for the pro monniker tho.

I'm going to have to buy a new card too, my OCed Voodoo 3 (Running at 500 Mhz) just doesn't cut it anymore :(

Dual cored???? There is no "Dual Cored" video card from ATI, nvidia has SLI which is two videocards running in tandem....but ATI's version of that won't be out for some time....

There is no recent dual core cards out, but a few years ago i think it was the MAXX series or something had two GPUs on it.

I'm gonna go in the future and get a super duper XXZZT809980.32z3! it will make ur x800 look like the graphics engine for PONG!

x700 is a 9800XT with PCI-E

So yeah it will run, but go with atleast a X800XL. When the X1800's come out sometime in November I think the prices should hopefully drop significantly. I am saving for a crossfire motherboard. I will grab another X800XL and run them in dual. :)
