It's pretty rockin' I must say! :)

I got a 15 dollar ITunes gift card so I can download some videos (while I'm waiting for Family Guy to convert over to the format so I can transfer that over ;) ) and so far, it's pretty damn good!

Screen is larger than all the others, and it's very beautiful!!! Very nice and slim (I have the 30gb version), and feels well in your hand.

It uses the Apple ClickWheel obviously, so that's all fine and dandy...

With this, I highly doubt you will be outputing any video to TV (I mean it only supports 320x240, so you can clearly see the artifacts in the videos when you blow up the video size, but on the IPod screen they look perfect)

Supposedly the sound chip is enhanced (better bass response for those audiophiles), so they are making sure that music is the #1 focus (and also making sure that the IPod can run some audio-intense videos probably ;) )

Overall I love this thing... I have no problems with it (I had one hiccup which was taken care of though... it froze when I plugged it into my comp and restarted... I just did a quick IPod restart, and then it is working perfectly fine)

Anybody else getting one of these? Oh, and the main reason I got it was for Music... not videos (that was just an added plus)

I'd love to get one, but I just bought one of the 20gb ipod colours that just went down in price and I really don't need a portable video player

I am going to get an LG VX9800 or Samsung SCH A970 about sometime next month, hack em and store videos in the MiniSD and voila watching shows on my phone. Pfft forget teh IPOD!

I'm planning to upgrade from my mini to this as soon as I can find enough money to do so :(

Is society really to the point where we need television every where we go? OPEN A BOOK!

hows the battery life?

Videos suck the sh*t outta power... I can last maybe 3 hours or so if running videos all the time... Otherwise 15 hours of music :)

For the 30gb, about 2 hours for video and just music its 14 hours. Will be picking one up in the next few weeks. I'm waiting for the critisim to come out first (e.g. nano with its scratched screens).

Just because many people are buying the new iPod video doesn't mean they don't read?

What does that have to do with anything? It's not like I have a laptop or something, and am constantly on it. With the new ipod you can be constantly watching tv

But do people really feel the need to have TV everywhere they go? I mean come on, a little unnecessary, don't ya think? We spend way too much time in front of the boob tube as it is
I'd love to get one for the screen. I'm so glad I got a colour ipod instead of the black and white one, it makes a surprising difference

So true, society tends to rely on television too much these day, I mean how many TV's have we got in a household these day; I'm guilty too. Although I'll be buying an video iPod (well, my brother since, he lost my 3G iPod!) since I spend quite a bit of time on the bus these days; its either that or listen to music.

Also, I was reading some comments on BBC on the video iPod and many were complaining about people walking and watching their ipod, therefore more accidents are likely to happen. But, how many are going to watch television on their iPod while walking?:hmph:

I dont know about you guys but I barely watch tv these days. 1-2 hrs/day max.

Yea I see maybe an hour or two per week of TV..

It's the same thing with me... I don't watch TV much at all (I have like House and Over There that I record, so I just watch those whenever)... I use the computer 10000x more often than a TV.

But again, the main reason to get the new IPod shouldn't be for videos... You need to think of it as an updated IPod with video functionality added on... It's not the video IPod we've all been waiting for.

I was very impressed how it lasted it's first full day of testing. :) Class time hasn't gone past so fast!! Family guy rocks on it!

I didn't watch it while walking... I mostly just listened to music while walking, which everybody does now....

I think the #1 complaint with it will be scratched screens... I mean you have this large 2.5" screen, and if it gets scratched, videos obviously won't look as good.

Oh, and for those who are like "Psh, 2.5" screen is tiny, don't you have to squint to watch the videos?" the answer is No! Definetely not. It's actually not bad at all.. Oh, and what's amazing is that people can see the screen from wide angles, so you don't have to be sitting right in front to see the video (I had a crowd of people around me when we were watching Family Guy)

Another downside is that there is no connector on the top of the IPod anymore (just the hold switch and headphones connector), so there needs to be new accessories made for the 5G Ipod...

Oh, and my friend showed me his 4G 20gb Ipod, and wow, his thing was chunky :D Mine is very nice and thin! It's just awesome!

I recommend one of these things if you are on the lookout for a new media player... If your #1 reason isn't music though, I'm not sure if it's the best choice. Videos suck power for it to be considered like a mobile DVD player (I don't think you could even finish watching any of the LOTR films... well, maybe but you would be on the last of your power and it depends on how high you had your audio cranked up)

I give it a 8.5 out of 10 if you guys want a number.

I'm sorry, Iced_Eagle, but it had to be done. Your Freudian slip is frozen in time forevermore in my signature :P

Oh god the pain... the agony!

You sick bastards.

You had to have known. Maybe not conciously, but somewhere, deep down, you had to have known that our fellow forumnites can twist any innocuous statement into tones of deepest perversion. I know that's what I live for.
