Just installed Steam...

Hi,

just installed steam so i can play counter strike again.(to whip ass my college friends :dork

i start it up and it takes about 3 minuets for steam to start, then it says "Updating Steam" nothing happens for the next 5 minuets, then it goes to the login page. I try logging in with my account and it says

"Unable to connect to the steam network. 'off line mode' is unavalible because there is no steam login information stored on this computer. You will not be able to use steam until you can connect to the steam network again."

i have tried to see what the status is but it says its forbidden. Also im usually using wireless, but i connected up to the router still the same problem....

Last time i installed, hl2, CS:S, HL2EP1 all worked fine!

What should i do? ;(

turned it off, on the router and on my computer, still nothing... could it be something on my computer that steam doesn't like.

More like your Router doesn't like.
The steam connection could be blocked, be sure to allow your net IP address (if it hasn't by default)

or Ipconfig in Run

Ok thanks, checked it. I spoke to my father he says i need to unblock some ports as well.

What port do i need to unblocked...?

The ports you'll need to unlock are:

1200, 27000-27015, 27020-27039.

Make sure that they are UDP.

didn't have this problem last time, had them open with old router. Forgot to reopen them and completely forgot.

Ports are open, Static Ip Set, Firewall off... still have the same problem.

Edit.... i have just downloaded and installed the new steam releace so i dont have to update it. but im getting nothing eather, its saying a dodije error, reinstalling the steam wich has come with half life.

Thanks for the help, i installed it onto perants computer, and its my computer that steam dose not like.... could it be software on my computer?

It somehow knows you have had steam before, So it searches for your account folder. It tries but doesn't get anything, So it gives you an error. Try Shift-Deleting the folder in program files, Then reinstalling on your computer.

Yo know I think you are taking shi- again. Login info are stored in clientregistry.blob. Your acc folder is needed when you start a game.

is there any way to manually in the clientregistry.blob?

it still dose not do the updates when i start it up..which its meant to right?

i tried that one, i had the same problem, i dont think its that,

When i start steam up... it dose not update... it gives up. i removed the steam which came with the game and installed the new one from the steam website, and i had the same probelm with that....


It's deffently something wrong with the set up on my pc. I have a spare laptop (not good enough to play hl!) and its installed steam perfectly and its also updating. Would it be worth a re-install windows?
