"Our forums are the home to the largest community on the web. Be part of it." on main page of Half-Life2.net

I found that hard to believe, so I checked up on it:
Halflife2.Net Statistics
Threads: 15,664, Posts: 320,069, Members: 12,125

The largest community on the web

Vault Network boards (Role playing games discussion boards)

I don't see any justification for making that claim, source: http://www.big-boards.com/index.php?page=all

I'm pretty sure they're referring to the HL2 community, this being the biggest HL2 site on the net

Largest Half Life 2 community possibly.......

Anyways, you ever heard of nit-picking? Does it really matter, are people being mentally/physically damaged for a mis-interpretation of something on a website?

Largest Half-Life 2 Community Definitally.

Somethingawful has way more members.

Murray_H I did not mean to offend anyone, it was a simple statement I noticed on the main page of the website. I was not nit-picking by any means, for it was on the main page and a whole lot of people will notice it. If anyone is offended I shall kindly remove this statement.

Sorry i didn't mean to be as sharp as that, not really of my nature. I'll put it down to being tired, and seeing as you have just joined, welcome to the forums :)

but what about planethalflife.com etc.?

yeah maybe halflife2.net is the largest hl2 community

It's been badly worded. Basically we're the largest, active, dedicated Half-Life2 forum community on the internet. Yes there are bigger forums, etc, but when it comes to dedicated Half-Life2 we're currently the most active/biggest.

There are Half-Life2 forums out there with more "registered members" but if you look at the forum activity, threads and members using the board ( at any random time ) you'll find they're only 1/4 our size.

Nothing to boast about really. Our main quality is our community, other Half-Life2 sites are better in terms of hosting mods, others in terms of hosting files, etc, etc. Even hl2world has a quality, albeit it's their ineptness ( j/k ;) ). Each Half-Life2 website has its own quality. These forums and our community is our quality.

:)

How many of our members are truly active? Can we get some kind of figure work on active posters say, over the last month or so, or an indicator as to how many posters have over a particular number of posts for example? It would be interesting to know how many active posters we have here

That would be great.. It seems like there's a whole lot of people that have 0-1 posts..

[edit] - there is 12110 members.. I dont know how many are active..

On an average day we have about 30.5 people on these boards.

pff is this board run by 15 year olds? This is even worse than the 'tell us how cool we are' thread, pathetic. Where do you get off insulting other sites. This site suffers from either an awefull lack of self confidence or it simply has a staff with a bad attitude.

And don't say it was a joke, you see this time and time again on this site, the worst behaved here are the staff.

:afro:

EDIT: there are a (very) few staff members that make this site worth visiting (next to the community) incl. Fenric. But they are the exception rather than the rule.

I'd love for you to highlight the part in D33's post where he actually did insult another site seriously.

Registered users mean jack shit ( even here ), I once tried to explain this to a staff member on another Half-Life2 website only to have the muppet freak out and insult me. Some people simply aren't intelligent enough to understand certain aspects of statistics.

On the public face, what you want to look at is the rough number of people who use the board every day. This information is located at the bottom of the main forum index. Every Half-Life2 community forum has had a drop in people using their forums. This is because of the lack of new information, thus everything has been discussed. Once new information is released / or the game is released, you'll see giant increases on all Half-Life2 community forums.
