Before, this program said core speed:1807 MHz or something like that, and now it says 2305.2! Schwing! I ran through 3Dmark05 and there's no artifacts or anything, and my comp is still living. My box has 6 fans, and my CPU stock fan and heatsink. I'm adiicted to OC'ing! Next I shall get the VGA Silencer for meh 9800 PRo 128MB and OC it to XT speeds! WEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

omg this just in... it shuts down from games @ 2305.2. So I kept OC'ing and OC'ing down and I found a stable one : 2185.1MHz. This sucker still has room for OC'ing. But I just checked in the BIOS and the temp is 61 degrees Celcius. Which is the equivalent of 141.8 degrees Farenheit (degrees F= 1.8C + 32). I know the critical temp of AMD Athlon's is 90 C, so should I be worried? I'm thinking of a getting a more powerful heatsink and fan for like $20 total @ Fry's.

Is that 61c Idle? If it is then its dangerous. I have mine at 30c Idle

I did and am doing this right now.

The reason your game closes is actually voltage, by default to run @ 2500+ you need 1.6volts on my machine. To run it at 3200+ without games closing it needed 1.725 volts.

That will fix your problems :)

Thx did will do when I get some better cooling. So what kind of cooling do you have? Yea, your right the volatge for CPU is like 1.6. How do I change it in the BIOS> It's locked and I can't figure out how to unlock it. :p

Honestly I cant remember how to change it now - just play around, if you have an nf7 (v1) you should be able to change it.

That is why your games are closing - not the heat. Heat is a byproduct of voltage too, so expect it to get even hotter.

Its winter anyway, take the side of your case off and let the good old english winter cool it down.

61c isnt dangerous at all as most CPU's have a lifetime garuntee for running at 85c. The only problem with running at high temperatures is that the heat effects system stability. A good cooler like a thermalright SP97 with arctic silver 5 and a 92mm 3 pin fan will do that CPU the world of good.

30 C is pointlessly low for an idle temp. A good number is between 45-50 C. That number largely depends on your cooling setup, the processor itself, and the ambient temperture of the air.

Underload, I wouldn't want to see it break 55 C.

Don't buy a cheap fan or heatsink for your CPU. It will not cool anybetter than a stock heatsink, but a cheap CPU fan has a higher tendency to fail on you. Needless to say, you never ever want your CPU fan to fail on you. Save up the money for a proper HSF solution.

Get a new CPU, Athlon XP's are a joke.

No, they are not. They are an awesome deal that provides near high end performance at a budget price.

I would recommend a thermalright SP97 with a Zalman ZMF2 92mm Silent fan. Make sure you stick some arctic silver 5 under there too...
