NOT BAD!

I was going for bang for the buck on this sucker. Hopefully she doesn't let me down.

Last computer:

Opteron 165 (Would only go to 2.4!)
2 gigs DDR 400 G.Skill (These would load into windows at DDR600!!!)
eVGA 7900 GT
OLD ASS Vantec 480w ATX 1.0 PSU that I was using a converter with.

Hopefully I see an improvement. :)

Sorry, but that won't run Crysis, and isn't much of improvement. I hate to kill your buzz, but its rather disappointing. :(

Hey! Hey! Ho! Ho! ... PSU has got to go ... Hey! Hey! Ho! Ho! PSU Has got to go

Also get the GT instead of the GTX.
You can also go up a little on the 800 DDR2 if you intent to OC. ...

Oh! You already bought this? :| Great Stuff!!!

$10 for an 8800? Wow

The PSU has a good review, though the number of watts I'm not so sure about (lazy to see the requirement for the 8800) but the 12V rails seem plentiful enough.
But from what you are upgrading from I don't call it much of one. I mean you might as well just put the 8800 in your current pc, if you can get it that freakin cheap.

As crazy as it sounds, I'd rather have the 7900GT over the 8800GTS. I'm only running XP, so the DX10 features of the 88xx series cards wouldn't do me much good. Plus, according to some of the reviews I've read about the 88xx series drivers lately, well, I just don't like em'. If I was going for a next-gen card, I'd go for the ATI series this time around tbh.

Nevertheless, how'd the OP manage to get a 8800GTS for only $10.00? :O

Actually, it runs Crysis just fine on High. And it is a significant performance improvement over my old Opteron. Which died. Also, if I might ask, what would YOU have recommended to "run Crysis"?

The Earthwatts 380w version runs my brothers 8800 GT just fine. Also, the reason I am doing this upgrade is because my current PC died. My CPU is bad, and so is my DDR. (Have you seen DDR prices these days!)

Nothing personal, but I think you'd be wrong to choose a 7900 GT over an 8800 GTS. Forget the DX10 features. DX10 is pointless. But the 8800 series is great at Dx9 aswell. Also, yes, if I wasn't able to get the card for $10 I would have gone ATI.

Must have been one of those crazy deals they have on Newegg and such sometimes. Occasionally they'll have a bare-bones system of sorts, but throw in a video card for really cheap if they want to get rid of it.

When my eVGA 7900 GT died after almost two years, I sent it back to eVGA. Shipping cost me $10.15. They sent me back an 8800GTS 320 meg.

$10.15

Ah well worthy if you have nothing now. And where might I ask did you get it for $10?

Duh, Mr. Sailor Naruto!
I'm not even remotely a DBZ fan (or anime for that matter) and somehow I still know that DEATHMASTER's avatar is indeed Trunks.

If it was a 8800GT and not a 8800GTS, then yes, I'd take it, but if I were to pay full price, I'd rather have an equivalent ATI card instead.

The GTS series should have been named RHS, for "Red-Headed Stepchild", as it's basically the same as the GT series, but with all it's specs cut in half. (Half the pixel-pipelines, half the VRAM etc.)

It wouldn't be worth paying full price for a GTS series imo what with the current price cuts in the GT series and all.

IIRC, The clock speeds of a 79xxGT series card are not that different from a 88xxGT series. The first numeral such as 7xxx and 8xxx does not indicate it's GPU processing power, but the second numeral instead (i.e. 7600GT, 7900GT, 8800GT) The first numeral merely defines a new family of GeForce card with new features. (i.e. shader version, # of pipelines, etc.)
The letters such as GS, GT, GTX, LE, etc. defines specific optimizations made to the core architechure, (more specifically the amount of VRAM and tweaks to the stock GPU clock speeds, as well as the # of pipelines) and everything besides GT, and GTX pretty much sucks. The GT is the original design for each family. All other letter designations are "tweaks" with the GTX and Ultra designations being "improvements" to the original design.

EDIT> Oh yeah, OC means "overclocked" and SCO means "superclocked" (basically, an even greater overclock) and both of these GeForce designations suck too. (I don't like pre-overclocked cards)

So now you see why I'd just keep the 7900GT and spend that money on something much more cost worthy since I can't use DX10 features with XP?

That would explain the fact that you didn't realize I was summarizing two different shows in one

Naruto is one
Sailor Moon is the other

Both are bad shows in general.

Naruto is pretty good up till 136 (fillerville). Sailor Moon was also very, very awesome.
Also I thought SC is superclocked, never heard of SCO.

I had a friend who was really really into Sailor Moon.

Key word is "had."

Hey, Hey, you bastards, someone did actually open this thread. Should I get my aluminum bat, or y'all gonna fall in, and pay attention. Grrrrr!

Man, you must have not read my post that you quoted.

I said

"I didn't pay full price for the 8800GTS"
"My 7900 GT died"
"If I couldn't have gotten the 8800 GTS for $10 I would have gone ATI."

And you're still wrong about the 7900GT > 8800 GTS. VERY WRONG.

Also, the "GT" is not the original design for each family. Do you have sight problems?

I don't get the picture, but I assume you're attempting to call some form of bullshit.

To clairify, I said "high" not "very high" and I am running it at 1378x768 with 2x aa. Runs butter smooth with an occasional hiccup during jungle cinematics.

"I didn't pay full price for the 8800GTS"
I know that.
"My 7900 GT died"
My bad. I DIDN'T read that part. Too bad about the 7900 GT, I would've rather have had that card tbh. Not that the performance of the 7900 GT is any better, I just don't like the 88xx series drivers. That's why I agree with you about getting an ATI card instead if the 8800GTS was full price instead of that deal you got.
"If I couldn't have gotten the 8800 GTS for $10 I would have gone ATI."
I agreed with you there.

And you're still wrong about the 7900GT > 8800 GTS. VERY WRONG.
Maybe for your system. Not every 88xx series card would be ideal for every system, including my own.

Also, the "GT" is not the original design for each family. Do you have sight problems?
Then what is? The GS or LE?

Neither. nVidia has never had a specific suffic or the first card in a new family.

Did you ever buy the Geforce 4600 GT? Me neither. Because there was no 4x00 GT.

Accidental Double Post. Sorry Admins.

Heya Bro.

No, really, it's true. He is.

"... and in other news, Police are looking for "Barney-Fife. The notorious window-watcher..."
Dude, I swear that wasn't me wearing that red dress with the spaghetti straps & the matching Prada purse..

Well kiss me, slap me around and call me Susie; I didn't know that.

I guess its cool to have a brother here; you can flame someone together and they won't even know what hit em.
Like MRG going "Hey John doe, I don't like you, you're arrogant and sometimes gay hitting on the guys" And Top Secret goes "Yeah, you're right MRG, John Doe did hit on me the other day"
I can only imagine John Doe going "Wha? Wha? Whaaaa?"

OMG, This is off topic and totally gay; I can almost feel the flamig starting. Bring it on!!!
