OK - as a follow up from my last thread, i've decided to make a thread so that i can get advice on what or what not to use :P
I was planning on using:

IE6 (...maybe shouldn't have said that)
ZoneLabs Security Suite 6.0 PRO
and Windows Spyware Personal SE

Any other things people think i should use to minimise the risk of viruses or spyware :dork: :imu: :borg:

Thanks , again :)

IE6 is an absoulute no thats one of the most unprotected browsers go with fire fox getfirefox.com. anthor program that is useful is is adaware se i dont have a link for you but its a good program

IE is fine. I've never been virused through IE, its just like zapping the computer. People say to ground yourself, but I never heard of anyone zapping anything but their harddrive.

You should be good with that, but I'd suggest switching Zone Alarm with NOD32. Its an awesome program, never interrupted with my computer, but it has stopped viruses on the dime.
I have experienced Firefox lag problems though. The code doesn't seem to be well built from watching my Stepdad use it to. Could just be the computers.

I don't know about Fliko, but I've had MANY bad experiences with IE. I switched to FF, and I've been problem-free since. I also use the latest version of McAfee (which is stellar) and MS Antispyware Beta 1.

IE is fine as long as you have it all the way updated and turn off Active X.

IE6 or 7.
Windows OneCare.
Windows Defender.
XP /w SP2.
Always update.
Don't do stupid things -- Like click flashing images promising to give you money.

0 problems.

firefox, is simply amazing.. loads faster.. is safer. Ive used it for a couple of years now and havnt had any prblms ever.

PEACE

Mikey

PS zone-alarm is really good too:)

firefox loads faster ? lol . .

yes it really does load faster then IE, especially if you do that guide on the internets that increases the pipelines and stuff

Or you could download an extension called "Fasterfox."

Or you could go with Opera. Lately thats the browser I've been using. It is 100 times faster than FF.

cool - thanks for guidance. I've also installed the Nvidia firewall from my motheboard drivers what you think of this?

Also i was thinking i need a file compression program like WinRAR or FilZip what do you think is best?

xp w/sp2 & critical updates
decent firewall
COMMON ****ING SENSE

are all you need.

(oh and liberal use of msconfig/hijackthis)

thought you were talking about the actual browser program.

for me, ie6/7 and firefox (from 1.0 to 1.5.1 with tweaks/fasterfox) have basically loaded pages in equal time, which is more or less instant and i'm just on a 'normal' adsl connection.

if you're on 56k though (anyone ? :P), you might want to try out firefox with tweaks/extensions.
