Sixty-three-year-old Richards also told NME of his disdain for modern bands, calling Arctic Monkeys, The Libertines and Bloc Party "a load of crap".

Granted, the story is about him snorting his fathers ashes, but nobody's perfect!

Really, these modern 'indie pop' bands are completely overrated. When you compare what they're doing to what people did in the 60's and 70's there's just no comparison. I can't think of one band that I'll remember from this era that really changed music for the better. What happened to all the cool bands with soaring vocalists, mesmerizing solo' and bad-ass guitar riffs? Or what happened to the other camp of technical musicians who put emphasis on lyrics? If you want either of those types you've got to look towards 'alternative' sources that barely get any radio play. What happened to bands who just wanted to make kick-ass balls to the wall rock and roll?

I'm not calling for a return to the 60's or anything, because to be honest we have things much better these days. A world without the internet? pfft. But one thing we haven't seen is an evolution in music, I honestly think music has taken a step backwards in terms of emotional investment it demands. People simply want to make music these days that you can put on to relax while your doing your tax-returns.

There are some bands out there who are 'keeping the faith' so-to-speak, but they have it hard, not many of which you could call mainstream.

I understand what you mean. The only 'Keef' this generation has, is Pete Doherty and he is not even worthy of polishing Bill Wyman's boots.

Meh, I can't even turn on the radio anymore, it's always either -

1) Emo. Although 90% of this just seems to be shitty pop-punk bands who don't seem to realise Blink 182 stopped being cool in the 90s.

2) Radio-friendly rock. I ****ing hate Nickelback, but I ****ing hate the 300 spin-off bands masquerading as "hard rock" even more. All they are is acoustic love songs with distorted guitars and gritty vocals. Also, without fail, the "singer" will not shut up for even one bar of the song, except during - (a) the obligatory shitty guitar solo, and (b) the outro, which is ALWAYS the exact same chord to fade.

3) Actual acoustic love songs. Always written by someone with more hair than talent (moreso for the guys).

or 4) Anything that doesn't quite fit into any of the above categories, and is therefore pushed as either "alt" or "indie". Will be overplayed for about a week and then forgotten, along with the band.

After that there's everything else, which generally doesn't even get 2 seconds of play before I switch the station. This usually includes rap (or hip-hop, it doesn't seem to make too much difference anymore), the latest teeny pop idol to be churned out, or any combination of the two (you know the ones, that're like Nelly feat. Gwen Stefani feat. Justin Timberlake feat. Snoop Dogg).

Oh, and also note I hate the Rolling Stones too ^_^
