Title says it all really; replaced my old and decrepit Logitech marble mouse (that's a mouse with a top-mounted ball, for those that don't know) with the Kensington equivalent; Orbite Elite 2 Button Trackball.

Damn weird shape but at least the transparent blue ball has a light source beneath it for added snaziness. Anyway, at first I thought I just hadn't got used to it, but the Kensington is horribly unresponsive- "stiff", if you will, to the point that I can draw perfect lines in MS Paint using the freehand tool with very little effort.

Windows XP's Motion tab for mouse options includes speed and acceleration, but those have no real effect on the damn thing's behaviour- to the point, sensitivity. Any suggestions?

All right, now that's just stupidly weird- I don't have this problem ingame. I.e., HL and Doom 3 etc. all are fine, or at least seem to be. It's only when running on desktop, or a desktop application like Word. Gahhh... damn you glowing mouse of joy!

Get an optical mouse, seriously. It's VERY wierd at first, but I would NEVER go back to trackball.

Oh god, someone is still using a ball mouse? *shields eyes*

But seriously, why would you get a "new" ball mouse rather than an optical one?

If you're looking for a nice optical one, get a Logitech MX510. They're very nice, said to be the best mice for gaming.

Because I like having a mouse I don't actually need to move from its alloted position on my desk. No mouse mat! Wee!

Oh, and of course they're cheap now. YAY!

Anyway, problem (more or less) solved itself, simply because I've started to get used to it. Since it doesn't crop up ingame (and God knows why), I can live with it.
