I've ripped apart other peoples photos, now it's time to rip mine apart!

Here are a few I have taken recently with a regular point and shoot digicam.

No one has a single word to say on these?

What's with you people? I'll happily rip your shots apart but no one will mine?

Tbh, the focusing really blows in most all of them.

Especially the ones with the shallow depth of field. The DoF is reallY TOO shallow tbh.

Gotta play with your aperture settings more often :)

And, imo, the composition for most, except for the beer bottle one, isn't very good. My eyes are really attracted to nothing, and as such, I get bored of the pictures, instead of looking and trying to absorb them.

And again, aside from the beer bottle one, the contrast is REALLY flat.

Can you tell that I liked the beer bottle one :P???

Where have I seen this before??? It looks so familiar D:
You may have seen it over at GamerNode if you visit there.

They're macro shots, they're meant to be like that and how does the focus relate to aperture settings?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean on that. Unless your monitor is crap the contrast is anything but flat.

Cheers, considering it's of nothing more than what was in my window at the time, I like it too.

I agree with sinko on the composition. Its hard to tell what you want the main focus of the pictures to be.

Agree with sinko on the focus, they all look kinda half-assed.

Even though they are macro shots you still need to get the whole subject in focus, it's just the background that you want to blur out. For example, in the picture of the coins the front coin is only partially in focus, yet is obviously meant to be the subject i.e. ideally you'd want that coin completely in focus, which would require a greater depth of field (DOF). A larger aperture provides a shallower DOF, whilst a smaller aperture provides a deeper DOF, resulting in more of either side (in front of and behind) of the main focal point being in focus.

I hope that makes some kind of sense, it's hard to explain in words, i'm sure someone else can give a better explanation.

By contrast, I mean the way dark and light areas in the picture interact.

I could have a totally crap monitor, and view a picture with great COMPOSITIONAL contrast, and the contrast would still be great.
